When cars arrive at our Abingdon HQ and are signed up for our Concierge Service, part of the package is a full wash and detailing of the vehicle, inside and out, prior to photography.

Needless to say, our detailers are quite obsessive and, if we’re being honest, they can sometimes be a little on the OCD side when it comes to a car’s cosmetic appearance.

They can spot a scratch at 30 paces, a scuff at 50, and a dent at a range of about a mile and a half on a dark and stormy night.

“That’s a wonderful example,” we’ll say, nodding towards some pretty much pristine car.

The detailer, who will have a look of pure incredulity on his face, will reply “What? Are you quite mad? Can’t you see that vicious, brutal, obscene stone chip inside the wheel arch?”

He’ll be pointing to something that’s practically invisible to the naked eye and can only be seen by someone lying on their back and holding an inspection lamp.

Well, this manual ‘Pastel Yellow’ 911 Carrera cabriolet defied our detailer’s ability to find any blemishes worthy of the name anywhere on the fabulous exterior of this car.

He went over the car about eight times in an increasing state of panic, fearing that he might have lost his touch.

We had to sit him down in a dark room and show him pictures of dents and scrapes on an old Fiat Panda until he’d got his mojo back.

With just 63,800 miles on the odometer, this car comes with a comprehensive history and has been mostly in storage since the last ownership change back in 2016.

The vendor, who is in the trade and truly knows his way around classic cars, bought the car as part of a collection in around 2016.

He has had it serviced, maintained and MoT’d, and thinks he’s done little more than 1000 miles in it.

It was last serviced and MoT’d on 05/07/23.

The car was specified from new with a host of extras including heated seats, headlight cleaning unit, cruise control and the all-important hard-top that would have been at least a £2K extra at the time.

It starts on the button and presses on with all the urgency, poise, balance and grip you’d hope for.

It is reassuringly devoid of any extraneous rattles, sighs, whistles, clunks or groans.

All in all, it’s really very, very good indeed.
