Descrizione

The Peugeot 205 was produced between 1983 and 1998 and was declared 'Car of the Decade' by CAR magazine in 1990. The styling of the 205 is often thought to be a Pininfarina design, however Gerard Welter, Peugeot's chief designer, claims it as an in-house design. The car is often credited as the car which turned Peugeot's fortunes around. The GTi version came in 1.6 litre and 1.9 litre engine derivatives and is considered one of the very best hot hatches of all time. The 205 GTi is still known to offer a very rewarding driving experience and is still mentioned to this day in group car tests of the newest GTi models or equivalent. Peugeot itself never truly recreated this success in subsequent GTi models, although they came close with the highly regarded GTi-6 variant of the 306.

Originally registered on 11th August 1987, this Peugeot presents very well in the desirable combination of Anthracite Grey with red and grey half leather interior and red carpets. Subject to a category C insurance loss in June 1997 this 1.9 litre 205 GTi has been owned by the vendor for the last 25 years. It was in dry storage for 17 years and was sympathetically restored in 2016 by AV Classics with photographic evidence in the history folder. The detailed list of work carried out by AV Classics includes the removal of all glass and stripping the body back to bare metal. Any surface rust was removed, however the front wings and bonnet were badly corroded and new ones fitted. New front and rear bumpers were also fitted. The car was then re-sprayed in the original colour of Anthracite Grey. Mechanically the car was also taken care of with new suspension bushes, refurbishment of the rear axle and a new stainless steel exhaust system fitted. A new cambelt was fitted along with the braking system being overhauled and the alloy wheels re-furbished. This 'hot hatch' has covered a little of 5,000 miles in the last 20 years and merely 281 miles in the last 10 years. Supplied with a V5C registration document, together with an MoT test certificate valid until 26th June 2026 and a history folder. A delightful example of this exciting French sportscar of the flamboyant 1980s, this 1.9 litre example is still looking as great today as it did just over 35 years ago. Consigned by Stewart Banks.
