Once again, Marreyt Classic Cars can offer you a unique Italian Etceterini with Mille Miglia history. Our team already built several years of experience in the field of Etceterini cars by buying and selling, restoring and maintaining them. Finally, we like to take them to the annual Mille Miglia events in Italy to put them to the test.

There is no doubt about it, Marreyt Classic Cars is the specialist when it comes to these unique little jewels.

Allow us to introduce this extremely rare Benedetti Giannini 750 Sport Barchetta. Constructed in 1950 by the Fratelli Benedetti (the Benedetti Brothers) in Florence. Only two cars were believed to be built; one for Angelo Benzoni and one for Carlo Chiti. This one in particular was Chiti’s personal car.

If the name Carlo Chiti does not ring a bell, please allow us to give a bit more of important background information.

Carlo Chiti was a famous and important engineer who worked intensively on Alfa Romeo competition cars in the 50’s. Later he was involved in the design of the Ferrari 246 F1 driven by Mike Hawkthorne and Ferrari 156 Sharknose driven by Phill Hill who respectively won the 1958 and 1961 Championships.

In 1962 after a dispute that Enzo Ferrari had with some of his engineers, Carlo Chiti decided to leave Ferrari.

Shortly after Chiti became a key figure in Alfa Romeo’s competition deparment; Autodelta. Under his reign Autodelta would create much furor in the following years with models such as the Giulia Tubolare Zagato, the Giulia GTA and the Tipo 33. In short, let it be clear that Carlo Chiti had a very innovative and important role in racing.

Back to the car for a moment; this Benedetti was based on a Fiat Topolina A which was completely rebuilt and adapted to make it perform amazing. The barchetta-body was coachbuilt by Carrozzeria Lotti in Florence.

Initially, the car was equipped with a Fiat 1100 engine modified by Pasquino Ermini (founder of the Ermini Automobili). He reduced the displacement from 1100cc to 750cc. Not long after the engine was changed to a Giannini G1 743cc engine.

Carlo Chiti drove his beloved Benedetti Barchetta in a couple of events; the Coppa della Toscana, the Firenze-Fiesole race and in the 1952 Mille Miglia. In the ’52 Mille Miglia the car managed to finish 5th in class (Sport 750cc) and in 125th place overall.

Included with the car is a big file with historical pictures of above mentioned events, important documents of the car’s history and even the Carlo Chiti registration document. In recent years the car participated and finished another 3 times in the Mille Miglia (2015, 2017 and 2019).

Today, the car finds itself in excellent condition. It was meticulously restored a couple of years ago and prepared to participate in many more Mille Miglia’s to come. During its restoration the car was completely dismantled and rebuilt from ground up. A file is included with lots of pictures from before, during and after the restoration.

Also included are:

  • Pictures of car in the 1952 Mille Miglia and other races
  • Copy of the 1952 Mille Miglia registration document
  • FIVA ID-Card
  • Mille Miglia Registro Certificate proving this is a true Ex-Mille Miglia vehicle

Are you ready to follow in Chiti's footsteps?
