HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
The S8 (Super Eight) was the second production model from the then young Dutch car company Donkervoort, which still exists today. It was a greatly improved car compared to its predecessor and is therefore one of Donkervoort's best-known and most successful models. This example was built in 1990 and was owned by Donkervoort itself until 1999, after which the company made a few improvements to the car. In fact, this was a Donkervoort demo car. In 1999, the car came into the possession of its second and current owner, who has cherished it for 26 years. A car that has always been driven with love and passion, and as a result has been kept in good condition. This is also evident from the valuation report from April 2025, in which the car deserves a quality rating of “Condition 2+” with a value of €42,500. The car also comes with power tests, among other things.
EXTERIOR
The car is finished in dark blue with a red interior, which contrasts beautifully. The paintwork is still neat and there are no signs of rust or damage. The chrome work, lighting and windows are also in good condition: the prominent exhaust pipe, engraved with the model name, shines exceptionally well. The 5-spoke 14" alloy wheels are also in very good condition. Characteristic features are the robust roll bar and the spare wheel at the rear.
INTERIOR
The interior is also in good condition with no damage, but only slight signs of wear on the leather-upholstered seats. The leather-covered dashboard has space for four centrally located gauges, seven centrally located buttons and two large gauges located directly in front of the driver. Clear and uncluttered, in keeping with Donkervoort's motto: “No Compromise”. The soft top, tonneau cover, doors, carpet set and the rest of the interior are all in good condition and undamaged. A radio/CD player with speakers is mounted behind the front seats.
TECHNICAL
Under the bonnet is a 2.0-litre 4-cylinder engine from Ford. According to the manufacturer's specifications, it delivers 110 hp, but according to a power output report from 2008, this engine delivers no less than 142 hp. The car was re-tuned at the Speedcentre Geldermalsen at the time. Combined with a weight of 625 kg, this makes the car seriously fast, with acceleration from 0 to 100 km/h in less than 6 seconds. The car drives excellently and the engine is coupled to a smooth-shifting 5-speed gearbox. The Yokohama tyres are still in excellent condition.
GENERAL
The story of Donkervoort begins in 1965, when Joop Donkervoort sees a Lotus 7 on his way home from school and becomes fascinated by it. The dream of developing a better sports car eventually led to the official establishment of the car brand in 1978 and the production of the first model: the S7. The first cars were built in a shed behind his house, but in 1983 production was scaled up with the move to a factory in Loosdrecht. In 1980, the S8 was unveiled: a more advanced car with a more powerful engine and better driving characteristics, which led to great success. Many motoring journalists praised the model and even in the United Kingdom they called it ‘The best Seven ever’. The driving characteristics are formidable and attention was also paid to safety, in particular with a dual braking system and two aluminium fuel tanks mounted in front of the rear axle. Over the years, Donkervoort has continued to develop, even setting a Nürburgring record in 2004. To this day, Donkervoort is still very active, with the impressive F22, which has been in production since 2022, among other models.
