Description
Every Beetle fan knows that there are hardly any spare parts for this now very rare series, let alone original and complete vehicles.
What else is original?
In short, the entire body, the underbody, all units and the interior are original, with the exception of the two front seat covers, which were covered in the original VW material, as was the headliner. All four fenders are still original, with tubes at the front and beads under the taillights at the rear.
Note the original aluminum trim, original emblems, grooved indicators, beaded bumper, ball ashtray, etc.
The original door panels were preserved with the protective covers still in place.
This data sheet from the Volkswagen Foundation confirms the data of the vehicle and the affiliation of the engine to the vehicle.
The history:
In May 1951, the split window bug was handed over to a proud family by the then dealer in Ravensburg. After a few years of use, the lady of the house handed the vehicle over to her son. Since mom was very religious, she gave her son the vehicle along with a picture of Jesus, on the back of which she wished him a safe journey with the new vehicle. This picture with the dedication still sits on the Beetle's dashboard today. At the beginning of the sixties, the junior lost interest in his 25 hp car and put it in the barn on his farm.
Almost 50 years later, information about the vehicle's existence reached a classic car collector from the region. A few pictures from the barn documented the unique condition and so the man acted immediately and picked up the treasure. The VW was immediately transported to a specialist shop, where it was carefully dismantled and inspected. After removing the paint from the body and ice blasting the entire floor assembly, work began on reworking all the necessary parts such as axles, steering, engine, brakes, etc. The pictures of the work and those from the barn are available.
The car was only repainted on the outside, the interior is still original and has a wonderful patina. Unfortunately, the original inner sky could not be preserved.
The car was purchased immediately after the restoration and has been in the hands of a collector in northern Germany ever since.
The car drives perfectly and has always been well maintained over the last few years.
Once you get the hang of it, driving with the unsynchronized gearbox is no problem and very authentic.
In any case, you will be one of the eye-catchers at every classic car meeting.
