Description

The Morris Minor Traveller: There is something inherently charming about a Traveller. By 1971, the design had been perfected, offering that iconic mix of ash wood framing and steel that feels like a rolling piece of British heritage. It’s a car that puts a smile on everyone’s face, but under the skin of this particular example lies a much more capable machine than the factory ever intended.

Exterior: Finished in classic British Racing Green, the paintwork has a deep, rich finish that provides a perfect contrast to the light ash wood. The wood itself is in excellent shape, and the chrome brightwork is clean and bright. While there are a few small marks here and there from use, the overall presence of the car is fantastic. It strikes that ideal balance of being nice enough to show, but honest enough that you aren't afraid to actually drive and enjoy it.

Buying a Morris Traveller?

Interior: The interior is simple, functional, and very "period." You’ve got black vinyl seats and brand-new carpets that give the cabin a fresh, well-cared-for feel. The addition of a wood-rimmed steering wheel ties the interior to the exterior woodwork beautifully. Being a Traveller, it’s surprisingly practical—with the rear seats folded flat, you have a massive amount of cargo space, making it a classic you can actually use for more than just a Sunday drive.

Mechanics & Performance: A "Sleeper" in Disguise

This is where this Morris gets interesting. Forget the original 1098cc engine; this car has been fitted with a newly rebuilt 1380cc unit. It’s been built properly for modern use:

  • The Build: Stage 2 cylinder head, Cooper S valves, and a Kent MD 226 camshaft.

  • Fueling: Twin SU HS4 carburetors with open air filters, all set up to run on unleaded fuel.

  • The Power: With a compression ratio of $9.75:1$, it’s putting out roughly 80hp—nearly double the original output.

  • Gearing: To make it usable on the highway, the rear axle has been swapped to a 3.7:1 ratio (down from the buzzy 4.2:1). This keeps the RPMs lower and the cabin much quieter at speed.
The restored gearbox, sports exhaust, and stainless steel headers make this a genuinely quick, fun, and reliable little car that handles far better than you’d expect.

History: Sorted and Documented. Since being imported to Sweden in 2015, this Traveller has been the recipient of a massive amount of time and investment. The current owner has gone through every mechanical detail, and it shows in how the car performs. It comes with a solid documentation file, including receipts and a full breakdown of the engine and mechanical specifications.
