MG carried out minor bodywork facelifts in late 1969 (1970 model year), with the sills being painted black, the grille being revised and the rear lights being squared off as on the MGB. The 13 inch Ruby Owen "Rostyle" wheels were standard, but wire wheels remained an option, fitted with 5.20x13 Crossply tyres or 145HR13 Pirelli Cinturato CA67. These revised cars were initially presented with a matt black windscreen surround, which proved so unpopular that the Midget was refitted with the original brushed alloy wheels after only a few hundred examples.

The squared off rear wheel arches were completed in January 1972. A Triumph steering box was also fitted in this year, giving a slightly lower gear ratio than on earlier Midgets. A second exhaust silencer was also added in 1972. From 1973, dynamos (generators) were replaced by alternators.

The Midgets with round arches and chrome bumpers that were introduced for the 1972-1974 model years began to leave the Abingdon factory in late 1971. Between 1966 and the 1969 facelift, 22,415 were made, and another 77,831 up to 1974.

This Midget presented here is an original Dutch car and has had three owners. There is a thick pile of maintenance invoices from the previous owner. It drives fantastically and the bodywork is still nice and straight. Only the rims are a bit rusty and should be cleaned. The car has recently had a major service and can be used again. Tall people can also sit comfortably in it, although you wouldn't expect that.
