Messerschmitt, temporarily banned from aircraft production, therefore focused on the production of other products. In 1952, Fend approached Messerschmitt with the idea of producing small motor vehicles. These were based on its Fend Flitzer wheelchair.

The first Fend vehicle to go into production at the Messerschmitt factory in Regensburg was the KR175. The name Kabinenroller means "scooter with cabin." Although the Messerschmitt name and logo were used on the car, a separate company, Regensburger Stahl- und Metallbau GmbH, was established to manufacture and sell the vehicle.

The KR200 replaced the KR175 in 1955. While the basic frame was the same as that of the KR175, the KR200 was almost completely redesigned. There were changes to the bodywork (particularly the wheel recesses in the front fenders) and an improved hood design. The rear suspension and engine mount were also revised, and hydraulic shock absorbers were installed on all three wheels. The tire size was increased to 4.00x8.

With a retail price of approximately DM 2,500, the KR200 was an immediate success. Nearly 12,000 were built in its first year, the highest annual production for a Kabinenroller model. A top speed of over 90 km/h (56 mph), despite a rated power output of only 10 hp (7.4 kW; 9.9 bhp), 1 hp more than the 175 cc engine of the KR175, reflected the vehicle's light weight and low aerodynamic drag. However, the KR200 was 23 kg (50 lb) heavier than the KR175 it replaced, but had a top speed 10 km/h (6 mph) higher. An "Export" package included two-tone paint, painted hubcaps, a fully upholstered interior, a heater, a clock, and a sunshade for the hood.

With a clear dome top and original chrome luggage rack. The Messerschmitt is in excellent condition. It has been meticulously restored, true to the original, using original parts. The restoration was completed some time ago. Blue with a red interior. Fully operational and a lot of fun to drive. You'll attract more attention than in a Ferrari. Includes a Dutch registration.
