After 19 years of production for the Mercedes-Benz SL R 107 series, it was time for a modern successor. The new R 129 series was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show in March 1989. Initially, the 300 SL, 300 SL-24, and 500 SL models were offered. The standout features were the automatic roll bar—designed to protect occupants in a fraction of a second in the event of a rollover—and the electro-hydraulic soft top. Together with the integral seats and the standard wind deflector, these features heralded a new era in sports car design. Even today, more than 37 years later, this SL remains modern and has matured into a sought-after classic as a sporty touring car.
Our Mercedes-Benz 500 SL Roadster was first delivered in Sicily in 1990. The classic car has been repainted once in its original dark blue color (MB 904), and the soft top with its hydraulic mechanism has been replaced. Yes, there are slight signs of wear. If you’re interested in purchasing this classic car, we can discuss what, if anything, might need to be done. In any case, the 500 SL, as a complete package, is the crowning achievement of this model series!
