The Mercedes-Benz SL of the R129 generation appeared at the end of the 1980s and set the tone for an entirely new generation of roadsters. Sharper, more modern, and technically more advanced than its predecessor. The power-operated convertible top, integrated seat belts, and automatically deploying roll bar were highly progressive for their time, but fortunately the car still did what an SL is supposed to do best: cover long distances in comfort and complete relaxation.
This 1992 300 SL-24 is also equipped with one of the most enjoyable engines in the range. The 3.0-liter 24-valve six-cylinder produces 231 horsepower and clearly has more to offer higher up in the rev range. Combined with the optional manual transmission, this gives the car a surprisingly active side. You can cruise along calmly, but when you want to, it genuinely invites you to take control and drive.
And then there is the color. Malachite Green over Fir Green leather. Is this one of the most beautiful color combinations in which an R129 could be ordered? We will gladly leave that up to you, but in our view, it is difficult to imagine anything much more stylish. Especially in this early two-tone specification, the car has exactly that typical 1990s look that is once again hugely appreciated today.
This example also remains in its original paint and was clearly cherished by its previous owner. With only 35,000 kilometers on the odometer, the condition is exceptionally attractive. The body looks straight and well cared for, the interior is remarkably fresh, and on the road the car feels exactly as you hope a low-mileage R129 should feel: solid, refined, and superbly built.
