Ready for its next owner

Have you had a genuine Mercedes-Benz 280 SL on your wish list for a while? Then you should definitely take a good look at this beautiful 1968 Pagoda, because it’s truly worth it. We’ve known the owner for over a decade and have previously sold several cars to him and others in turn. So we know he’s a true classic car enthusiast, and takes care for his cars very well.

This SL, considered by many to be the ultimate classic Mercedes, was purchased by the owner in 2013 and has since been cherished by the owner and well-maintained by the renowned Mercedes specialist Van Dijk from Lisserbroek. Invoices are, of course, available.

The car originally came from Alabama, USA, and was brought to the Netherlands in 2011. It’s a highly original, rock-solid car that has only been brought up to our standards. Of course, the beautiful body-colored hardtop is also included. With the shape of a pagoda, which also gives the car its famous name. The blue interior is immaculate, as is the blue mohair soft top.

According to the available documents and the original, so called “Wagenkarte” (birth card), this is a matching numbers car, except for—and here’s the kicker!!—an original Mercedes 5-speed gearbox. This was installed later and is incredibly unique, as they are practically unavailable. Because they were only factory-installed on a few cars, it’s almost impossible to find such a thing for sale separately. But the owner did find such a 5-speed gearbox and had it installed. And we have to say, it’s truly the icing on the cake. The shifting is fantastic, and that extra gear makes driving it even more enjoyable than with a 4-speed gearbox. Incidentally, the original 4-speed gearbox comes with the car.

Unfortunately, to enjoy a beautiful classic car, you also need good health. And that’s the bottleneck in this case. And although the owner could see the SL every day from his conservatory through the glass wall of the garage, this is obviously not the way to enjoy it. Cars simply need to be driven regularly to stay in good condition. Therefore, after much deliberation, he decided to let us pick up the SL. We always prefer to deliver a car to a owner rather than take it away from him this way, but fortunately, he made this decision himself, and he assured us it’s a good decisison.

This does open up a wonderful opportunity for a new owner. There are quite a few Pagodas for sale, but there’s also a lot of junk in there. And our customers don’t want that. With this SL, we can offer a beautiful and complete car whose story is known and can be enjoyed immediately. And for the icing on the cake: at a very reasonable price, because the owner wants to move on quickly once the decision to sell has been made. We think it’s an excellent opportunity for the true 280 SL Pagoda enthusiast.
