About this Land Rover 88 Series III
-----------------------------------

The Series III is the most common series Land Rover with just over 440,000 being built between 1971 and 1985. The headlights were moved to the wings on late production IIA models and remained in this position for the series III. The traditional metal grille, featured on the series I, II and IIA, was replaced with a plastic one for the series-III model and the 2.25-litre engine had its compression raised from 7:1 to 8:1 increasing the power slightly.

The series III saw many changes in the later part of its life as Land Rover updated the design to meet increased competition. This was the first model to feature synchromesh on all four gears and the simple metal dashboard of earlier models was redesigned with a new moulded plastic dashboard and instrument cluster, which was previously centrally located, was moved to the driver's side. In 1980, the 2.25-litre petrol and diesel engines received five main bearing crankshafts to increase rigidity and the transmission, axles and wheel hubs were strengthened.

During the series-III production run from 1971 until 1985, the 1,000,000th Land Rover rolled off the production line in 1976.

This lovely Land Rover Series III 88 was first registered on 2nd June 1980 and is finished in its original colour scheme of Green and Old English White with Black vinyl trim and it has the 4 cylinder 2286cc Petrol Engine with a 4 Speed synchromesh Gearbox, 4 Wheel Drive + a Tow Bar and electrics. It also has a removable Hard Top but no Soft Top.

The car has only had 4 previous owners from new and the previous owner in Ringwood, Hampshire purchased the car in 1986 and sold it after 40 years of ownership in 2016 to the current recorded keeper in Honiton, Devon, so it has only had two owners in the last 48 years. There is a history log from the previous owner detailing various works undertaken during his ownership, and the current owner has in addition to routine servicing, had some welding carried out to its original chassis, which is still in overall very good condition, a new Petrol Tank, new Exhaust System, new Brakes and a few minor repairs and ancillary items.
It has now only covered a genuine 66,375 miles from new and there are MOT certificates from 1986 through to the current one issued in November 2023 @ 66,121 miles with No Advisories and the car really does drive very well.

We are just in the process of finishing our preparation of the car which so far has included repainting the bonnet and replacing the bonnet frame + some detailing work to the bodywork and Engine Bay and it is fair to say that overall this car is in very good condition inside and out for its age.

It is of course ULEZ compliant and Road Tax free being of 'Historic Vehicle' status and upon sale, the car will be given a pre-sales service and come with a 6 Month Mechanical Warranty.

Please note that all photographs shown are courtesy of the previous owner in addition to some taken by ourselves upon arrival and prior to any paint rectification and detailing.
A new set of photographs and a video will follow after completion of our showroom preparation and once it stops raining!
