Produced from 1986 onwards, the XJ40 is the modern interpretation of traditional Jaguar design. With it, Jaguar created one of the most technically ambitious vehicles of the eighties. The XJ40 has a 6-cylinder in-line engine with two overhead camshafts, four valves per cylinder and 3.6 liters of displacement, from which 203 hp are gained. Power is transmitted by a ZF 4-speed automatic transmission, driven by the rear axle. For the first time, Jaguar introduced the J-Gate automatic shift lane in the XJ40, the very practical and unique way to change gears manually in a separate shift lane.

Our example from May 1988 is the noble Sovereign trim level, which is positioned above the XJ6. It is recognizable by the styled headlamps (rectangular wideband headlights), whereas the simpler XJ6 models have 4 round headlights.

Until the facelift, the XJ40 had digital display instruments that illustrate the technical demands of the Jaguar brand on the model.

Our XJ40 3.6 Sovereign has run just 105,000 kilometers. It comes from Switzerland and we offer it on behalf of the owner. With a classic colour combination in Westminster blue on the outside and cream-coloured leather upholstery on the inside, it comes across as downright majestic - just as befits a vehicle from the British Empire.
