This fascinating example of one of Coventry's finest had a truly engaging early life as it was first delivered to Captain J.B. Baillie who was an archetypical gentleman racer. An ex-army man, he used to race Aston Martin DBR1s at the weekend while enjoying his Jaguar XK150 during the week - quite the two-car garage! Numerous records of his exploits are included in the history file, as well as his original BRDC radiator badge with his name engraved at the bottom. In more recent years, this example has had significant work undertaken, with all aspects of the restoration undertaken by well-respected XK professionals. It was stripped down to its constituent parts with its paint removed and the bodywork repainted in a new gunmetal grey colour. The car has been returned to its original set-up apart from the addition of an alternator and electric cooling fan. All dashboard instrumentation has been restored and recalibrated by John Marks and re-connected through a brand-new wiring loom.
The re-chroming, front and rear was undertaken by Castle Chrome and the wheels are new MWS items with fresh nitrogen-filled Blockley tyres. The engine has been rebuilt by VSE (Vehicle Specialised Engineering) - very well-respected high-performance engine builders. The triple 2” S.U. carburettors (as the S-specification car were equipped with) were rebuilt by David Lonsdale - and now offer 235bhp - and the gearbox by Klassic Transmissions with the limited slip differential by Alan Slawson. It is no surprise that the exhaust is a stainless-steel unit. Most ancillaries were sourced through Coventry Auto Components and SNG Barrett with the interior trim by Mike Thomas, in navy blue, in absolutely faultless condition. With only circa 150 miles covered since the works were completed, the condition reflects this mileage. Complete with twin lever arch files detailing the condition and history of this car, it really is an example that certainly requires the time spent to inspect it with a view to it forming a cornerstone of any significant collection. In terms of paperwork, along with the Heritage Certificate a new MoT test certificate is supplied the original buff logbook as well as the current V5C showing no previous owners. Also enclosed is a JDHT dating certificate and, interestingly, this car in particular, is detailed in the Anders Ditlev Clausager's (Jaguar archivist) book 'Jaguar XK140/150 - in detail.'
