HISTORY/DOCUMENTATION
Did you know that the design of the 124 Sport Spider has Dutch roots? This is all down to the well-known Dutch designer Tom Tjaarda, who was employed by Pininfarina at the time. The design is based on Tjaarda’s earlier design for the Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, which was ultimately not produced due to too many European influences. Fiat, however, did show interest in this design, and it thus formed the basis for the Sport Spider, which was introduced six months after the popular four-door Fiat 124 (in 1967). Over the years, the appearance was slightly altered and the engines were enlarged. This eventually led to the CS1 model, which was fitted with a 1.8-litre engine and was only supplied in the United States. The example we are offering was produced in 1978 and was imported from the favourable climate of the US to the Netherlands in 1999. There is a wealth of documentation available covering the period since 1999, including invoices and valuation reports. Also handy: a Dutch-language parts catalogue is included with the car. The chassis number is 124CS10136873.

EXTERIOR
The beautiful design remains as striking and timeless as ever. The dark blue paintwork (Blu Scuro) has the colour code 449. This stylish colour combines beautifully with the beige interior and the beige soft top. Characteristic of this model are the bulges on the bonnet. The Pininfarina emblem is proudly displayed on the side. The bumpers were replaced on both sides in 2026 (at a cost of over €1,000) with stainless steel ones. The paintwork is in excellent condition with a deep gloss and only a few signs of wear. The rubber seals and chrome trim are in pristine condition. The lighting is in good condition and has been partially replaced (including the indicators). The car is fitted with 13-inch 4-spoke Abarth CD30 Style Classic alloy wheels. The beige soft top is made of fabric and is in good condition with no tears. The car’s lines are attractive and the bodywork is still in very firm condition, thanks to the dry climate in the United States.

INTERIOR
The interior features beige leather upholstery and is in good condition with some signs of wear. The steering wheel has been replaced with a beautiful wooden California model by MOMO (worth almost €500). The wooden dashboard features a comprehensive instrument panel with various gauges, including oil pressure, temperature, voltage and a rev counter. The interior also features heating and a radio/cassette player. Thanks to the rear seats, four people can enjoy the open air.

TECHNICAL
The engine bay looks dry and clean and houses the 1,756 cc 4-cylinder engine with code 132A1
*031
*6, which is mated as standard to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The car is fitted with Michelin tyres in good condition with more than enough tread remaining. Thanks in particular to its light weight of 960 kg and rear-wheel drive, the Spider is a joy to drive. The Fiat has been well maintained over the years and it shows; it drives, changes gear and brakes very well and smoothly.

GENERAL
The Fiat Sport Spider 124 is a convertible produced by the Italian car manufacturer Fiat from 1966 to 1985. It was one of the most popular sports cars of its time and was praised for its excellent performance, comfortable handling and attractive appearance. The car was initially powered by a 1.4-litre four-cylinder engine producing 89 hp. The car underwent continuous development and was fitted with larger engines, eventually culminating in a 2.0-litre engine. Production of the Spider 124 ceased in 1985. The car remains a popular classic among enthusiasts of Italian sports cars.
