The DKW Schnellaster, also known as the DKW F89 L, was, in addition to the DKW F89 passenger car, the first new model from Auto Union after the Second World War and the first car to be produced in Ingolstadt after the re-establishment of Auto Union in West Germany.

The DKW Schnellaster (sometimes also written as Schnell-Laster) had a chassis made of profiled tubes with a forward-steering design that was progressive at the time, front-wheel drive and the two-stroke engine that was typical of DKW. The technology was derived from the DKW F8. The front wheels were suspended on wishbones and a transverse leaf spring, and the rear with a transverse torsion spring element.

The first model was the F89 L with a 688 cm³ engine and a three-speed gearbox, which delivered 14.7 kW (20 hp) at 3600 rpm. The front-wheel drive, the low-lying chassis and the compact rear axle made many versions possible for a wide range of purposes: minibus, panel van, combi, pick-up (also as a tipper), sales van, ambulance, cattle transporter and also as a chassis cab for special bodies. The loading space of the van was approximately 5 m³ (2230 × 1390 × 1575 mm) with an external length of 4177 mm and a width of 1670 mm. The payload was specified at 735–800 kg.

The F89 L with three gears was produced from 1949 to 1952, then from 1952 to 1954 with a four-speed gearbox and an engine power increased to 16.2 kW (22 hp). From 1954 to 1955, the Typ 30 with a 792 cm³ engine and 22 kW (30 hp) was built. Then from 1955 to 1962 the DKW Schnellaster Typ 3 with a three-cylinder engine with 896 cm³ and 23.5 kW (32 hp) was built. This engine came from the DKW 3=6.

This Schnellaster presented here has the Typ 30 engine with 30 hp. It has been completely restored to concours level!! Under the hood you see a new engine with its two special headlights that remain. It is a van that you will not often come across because only 28,000 were produced and almost not sold at all in the Netherlands.
It has a two-stroke petrol engine that drove a maximum of about 75 km/h. A perfect DKW Schnellaster!
