Description

A genuine 1967 Citroën HY camper, owned and cared for by the same owner for 30 years.

This is an honest and well-maintained HY with a very solid body and chassis, preserved and used as a camper rather than restored as a concours/show vehicle. It has recently been road-tested.

The vehicle is Danish registered as a historic/veteran vehicle.

Highlights

  • 1967 Citroën HY
  • Original petrol engine
  • Original engine previously rebuilt with new cylinders and pistons
  • Manual gearbox
  • Aftermarket vacuum brake booster fitted to reduce pedal effort
  • Very solid, rust-protected chassis and underside
  • Same owner for 30 years
  • Danish historic/veteran registration
  • Fully equipped for simple classic camping
  • Recently road-tested
  • Extensive photographs and videos available

Body & Chassis

The HY has an exceptionally solid body and chassis for its age.

The underside and chassis have been rust protected and are in very good usable condition.

A couple of the lower body repair panels were replaced before my ownership. These are part of the vehicle's history and are only visible on detailed photographs. There are no known structural rust problems.

I have owned the vehicle for 30 years and have maintained and repaired it throughout this period, often together with experienced friends and helpers.

The vehicle has not been presented as a fully documented professional restoration. Rather, it is an honest and carefully maintained classic with a long and continuous ownership history.

Engine & Drivetrain

The vehicle retains its original petrol engine.

The engine was rebuilt many years ago, including replacement of cylinders and pistons.

Since then, the vehicle has been maintained and repaired throughout my ownership.

The engine starts easily from cold and runs well when warm.

The original gearbox is fully functional. As characteristic of these early HYs, smooth gear changes are achieved using the traditional double-declutch technique.

Driving

The HY is normally driven at approximately 70–75 km/h, which I have found to be a comfortable cruising speed for relaxed touring.

The vehicle is capable of travelling faster, but at higher speeds the engine sounds more highly worked, and I have therefore preferred to drive it at around 70 km/h during my years of ownership.

A recent test drive has been recorded on video, including driving at approximately 60 km/h.

Braking

An aftermarket vacuum brake booster has been fitted to reduce pedal effort compared with the original non-assisted braking system.

This makes the HY considerably more comfortable to drive in modern traffic while retaining its characteristic classic driving experience.

Camper Interior

The HY has been converted into a simple and practical two-berth camper.

Equipment includes:

  • Two sleeping berths
  • Kitchen
  • Two-burner gas cooker
  • Sink/water arrangement
  • Storage
  • Small toilet compartment
  • Camping interior and curtains

Separate LPG compartment

The gas cylinder is housed in a separate exterior compartment, isolated from the living area.

The bottom of the compartment has an open ventilation grille directly to the underside of the vehicle. This allows any LPG gas that might escape to vent downwards and outside rather than into the living compartment.

External toilet access

The toilet cassette can be inserted and removed directly from the rear of the HY.

It is therefore possible to service or empty the toilet cassette without entering the living area of the vehicle.

Condition – Known Minor Items

I prefer to describe the vehicle openly and honestly.

The following minor items remain:

  • Fuel gauge/sender in the fuel tank requires repair.
  • One ceiling panel has cosmetic damage/staining from an earlier water leak.
  • Roof hatch needs attention/adjustment.
  • Approximately 10–20 cm of stitching has opened on the driver's seat.
  • Various minor cosmetic imperfections consistent with a 1967 vehicle.

These items do not prevent the vehicle from being driven and used as a camper.

Documentation & History

The vehicle comes with several thick repair and workshop books and technical manuals in both Danish and French.

During my 30 years of ownership, the vehicle has been regularly maintained and used for leisure and camping.

I have also prepared extensive photographic and video documentation for prospective buyers, including:

  • Exterior photographs from several angles
  • Detailed photographs of the underside and chassis
  • Engine compartment
  • LPG compartment
  • Toilet compartment and external toilet access
  • Camper interior
  • Bodywork and lower repair panels
  • Cold-start video at approximately 22°C
  • Warm-engine video
  • Engine idling
  • Slow manoeuvring of the vehicle
  • Driving and passing video at approximately 60 km/h

Additional photographs and videos can be supplied to serious prospective buyers.

An Honest Classic with a Long History

This HY is not being presented as a freshly restored show vehicle.

It is a nearly 60-year-old working classic that has been cared for and enjoyed by the same owner for three decades.

It has retained its character, while receiving practical improvements such as the brake booster and continuous maintenance throughout its life.

For someone looking for a genuine Citroën HY with a solid body, long-term ownership history and a usable camper interior, this is an opportunity to acquire a vehicle that is ready to continue its journey.
