Description

The Bond Equipe 6 Convertible, officially known as the Bond Equipe 2-Litre Convertible, represents a distinctive chapter in British automotive history. Produced between 1968 and 1970 by Bond Cars Ltd, it was the company's final model before its acquisition by Reliant.

Origins and Development
Bond Cars Ltd, based in Preston, Lancashire, initially gained recognition for its three-wheeled vehicles. In 1963, the company ventured into four-wheeled cars with the introduction of the Equipe GT 2+2, which utilized the Triumph Herald chassis and components. Over time, the Equipe evolved through several iterations, incorporating more powerful engines and refined designs.

The Equipe 2-Litre Convertible emerged as part of the final generation, introduced in September 1968. It was built on the Triumph Vitesse chassis and featured the 1998cc straight-six engine, delivering approximately 104 bhp. The convertible variant boasted a redesigned rear body, allowing the soft top to be fully stowed behind the rear seats, enhancing its aesthetic appeal.

Design and Features
The Equipe 2-Litre Convertible combined fiberglass bodywork with Triumph mechanicals, resulting in a lightweight and agile vehicle. Its design included a full-width grille, twin headlamps, wrap-around bumpers, and a spacious interior with features like a three-spoke leather steering wheel and a walnut gear knob. The car's performance was notable for its era, with a top speed of around 100 mph and respectable acceleration.

Production and Legacy
Production of the Equipe 2-Litre Convertible was limited, with only 841 units manufactured before the model's discontinuation in 1970. Following Bond Cars Ltd's acquisition by Reliant, the Equipe line was phased out, marking the end of the company's foray into four-wheeled sports cars. Today, the Bond Equipe 6 Convertible is a rare and cherished classic, appreciated for its unique blend of British engineering and design.

This 1983 Bond Equipe MKII 6 has been kept in very fine order, belonging to a real enthusiast who has a passion for unusual and unique motor cars.
The car was subject to a ground up restoration in Scotland in 2008 at great expense and then purchased by the current owner in 2014, who has cared for the car until today.
Fine example of a rare British small car company.
