Description

1967 Austin Healey 3000 MKIII BJ8 powered by the 3.0L inline 6 producing 148 bhp

After the Second World War, in 1945, Healey founded the Donald Healey Motor Company. After various development work (Nash Healey etc.) and victories in smaller races, the Healey 100 is the star of a British motor show in London's Earls Court. This vehicle is presented by Donald Healey in terms of both performance data (100 miles per hour) and price older MG T and the more modern Jaguar XK and aimed at the booming American roadster market. BMC President Leonard Lord (1896-1967) became aware of Healey's new model; Lord and Healey agreed to work together under the BMC umbrella on the eve of the public presentation of the Healey 100 (1952). The first 20 Austin-Healeys will be built in Warwick. In 1957 production moved to Abingdon. Series production was stopped in the USA in 1967 due to stricter safety and emissions standards; However, production continued until 1972.

The 3000 was Austin-Healey's most luxurious roadster. Compared to its predecessor, the 3000, had a folding top and retractable windows instead of plug-in windows with crank mechanism. It had discs on the front wheels and drum brakes on the rear. The body shells were produced at Jensen Motors.

This Austin-Healey 3000 BJ8 MKIII Phase II which we are presenting here today was originally sold in the United States back in 1967 where she stayed until 1988 when she was imported into Austria where she remained until recently. Here she was restored and technically optimized by Moser Gmunden, Hödlmayr Classic and Kröpfl Hartberg. Even though she was restored about 10-15 years ago, she is still in very good condition as she was meticulously restored by true craftsmen.

During her restoration she was refinished in the iconic British Racing Green colour, which gives her a very classic and stylish look. Her paint is in very good condition. Inside she has also undergone the same treatment and was restored to original specifications, with even the original Becker Mexico Radio. It is a very comfortable place in which you and your co-pilot will enjoy many fun road trips.

The mechanicals are the main talking point on this Austin-Healey. We believe that you will not come across such a cool 3000 any time soon. Her engine was completely rebuilt and upgraded for approximately 30.000 euros during her restoration. She was fitted with a Denis Welch aluminium cylinder head and camshaft, roller rockers, Cosworth pistons, 123 Ignition, balanced crankshaft, etc. She is a beautifully built unit with plenty of power. And to make her even better, a stainless steel sports exhaust was fitted… She sounds incredible! And only recently was she fitted with a 5-speed manual gearbox, meaning better shifts and improved comfort on long journeys.

This Austin-Healey 3000 is waiting for its next big adventure and we have the confidence that she will conquer every mountain pass without a problem. So what are you waiting for? Get in touch now to schedule an appointment and hear her 6 cylinder engine sing.
