This is a very special Aston Martin with a truly unique history. This example still carries its original Bertelli coachwork. In addition the chassis of this car belongs to a very small production group. Only twenty three examples were built for the 1936 Le Mans twenty four hour race. As a result this Aston Martin belongs to a select group of Aston Martins that are directly connected to the competition history of the marque. That makes this Aston Martin exceptionally rare and highly desirable for enthusiasts.

This Aston Martin was built in 1937 and also has a remarkable story. During the Second World War the car, like many sports cars from that era, was taken off the road. In the years that followed the Aston Martin remained within the same family circle. As a result many of the original and authentic details have been preserved. We are therefore looking at an example that has never been restored.

In later years the car was mechanically recommissioned by respected specialists with the goal of making it reliable to drive again without compromising the character of this remarkable Aston Martin. Today this Aston Martin presents itself as a beautifully preserved pre war sports car that still carries its original bodywork.

Since 2018 this Aston Martin has also returned to historic motoring events. The car was accepted into the Mille Miglia Registro and has already participated several times in the famous Mille Miglia. The car is again registered to take part in this iconic event in 2026.

When enthusiasts speak about Aston Martin from the nineteen thirties many immediately think of the Ulster models that earned their reputation on circuits such as Le Mans. However in the middle of the nineteen thirties Aston Martin introduced a new direction. The company wanted to build not only a pure competition car but also a sporting automobile that could be used on public roads. This led to the development of the Two Litre series of which the Speed Model represented the most dynamic version.

The history of this model dates back to a period in which Aston Martin had just emerged from a turbulent phase. After several financial difficulties the company found a new direction in the early nineteen thirties. Much of the engineering was developed by designer A C Bertelli who was responsible for the characteristic four cylinder engine with overhead camshaft. This engine formed the heart of the Two Litre models.

The Two Litre Speed Model was the sporting version of this series. The four cylinder engine had a displacement of approximately two liters and produced around ninety eight horsepower at five thousand revolutions per minute. The power was transmitted to the rear wheels through a manual gearbox. With its relatively low weight and compact wheelbase this Aston Martin was known as a very lively automobile for its time. What makes this generation of Aston Martins particularly interesting is that the cars were often built to individual specifications. Several coachbuilders created their own interpretations of the sporting chassis.

This makes the Aston Martin not only a car with a fascinating history but also one that can truly be used for the purpose for which it was originally built: driving. You notice this immediately when you take your place behind the wheel. The mechanical sound of the four cylinder engine, the narrow body and the direct steering feel transport you straight back to the world of nineteen thirties sports cars.
