Description

Hilton & Moss are pleased to present this beautiful, 1965 Alfa Romeo Giulia 101 Spider Veloce, built to FIA Specification. A late example of one of Alfa Romeo’s most coveted and eligible models.

Finished in the iconic colour of Rosso Alfa, with white roundels from the Alfa Revival Cup, as well as HRDC, Equipe Classic, AROC and HCVA decals, this plucky little 101 captures everything that defines classic Italian motoring.

Alfa Romeo introduced the Giulia Spider in June 1962, as a development of the very successful Giulietta Spider with the benefit of a 1,570cc engine and a 5-speed gearbox. The immensely pretty Spider bodies were designed and built by Pininfarina in Turin with the cars being assembled by Alfa Romeo in Milan. The Veloce version used twin Weber carburettors and hotter camshafts over the standard model to boost performance to around 129bhp. Since then the engine has of course been built up to an even higher specification.

This particular 101 Spider Veloce was originally dispatched to Dusseldorf in Germany, to a Dr. R Schimmer, factory specified with the desirable 1,600cc engine. Dr. Schimmer transformed the car into a successful racer and competed at tracks across Europe including the Infamous Spa Francorchamps, Zolder, Zandvoort, Brno, Hockenheim and the formidable Nordschleife. Even more significantly it triumphed at Monza in the 2010 Coppa Intereuropa, starting from the very back of the grid, which must have been a battle to behold!

The car was mechanically rebuilt by marque experts Alficina in Nottingham between 2021 and 2022 at which point it returned to racing again, with some notable success at:

Equipe GTS – Silverstone – First in class

CSCC Classic K – Silverstone – Second in class

HRDC – Silverstone – Third in Monza class

The car remains prepared for motorsport and as such benefits from a hard-top roof, with plexiglass rear and side windows, beneath which you will find a red roll cage accompanied by a three-spoke Alcantara-trimmed Sabelt steering wheel, surrounded by an array of toggle switches and fire extinguisher. However, the car has had additional work completed to make it more useable for fast road use and currently the car benefits from being fitted with beautiful period styled bucket seats trimmed in a red tartan. The car is also supplied with a single black, Sparco bucket seat and Schroth Racing harnesses.

The car is structurally very sound and the panel gaps are good, and bright Rosso Alfa paint presents to a very high standard despite its race car provenance. There are of course marks around the body that reveal some of the exciting life it has led but overall, the condition is excellent.

A significant part of the preparation has been to ensure that the car is compliant to FIA Appendix K (Period F 1962-65) Class GTS10 spec. The car is accompanied by current HTP papers that remain valid until 2033.

With this accreditation, the car can be campaigned at some of the most exciting racing events across the UK and Europe. The car has already been successfully campaigned at multiple tracks as shown below with some impressive results:

Donington Historic HRDC – Second in class

Equipe GTS – Brands GP – Fifth in class

HSCC Road Sports – Donington – First in class

Alfa Revival Cup – Monza – First in GTS class
