Few modern Porsches have made the transition from used performance car to recognised collector's item as convincingly as the 996 Turbo. Introduced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in 1999 and delivered to customers from 2000 onwards, the Turbo combined everyday usability with truly supercar-rivalling performance. Powered by the legendary Mezger-derived twin turbocharged flat-six and paired with all wheel drive, it quickly established itself as one of the defining performance cars of the early 2000s. Importantly, the 996 Turbo was also the first Turbo model that could be specified with either a manual gearbox or Tiptronic transmission, with enthusiasts overwhelmingly favouring the six speed manual today.
