The Porsche 356 C represents the ultimate evolution of one of the most influential sports cars ever produced — a model that not only defined Porsche’s early identity, but also reshaped the post-war European sports car landscape. Refined through more than fifteen years of continuous engineering development, the final-generation 356 C embodies the purest and most accomplished interpretation of the original Porsche concept.

Among all variants, the Porsche 356 SC Cabriolet stands as the most desirable and exclusive expression of the series. Combining open-top motoring with the highly sought-after SC specification, it delivers a driving experience remarkably close to that of the earliest 911 models, while preserving the unmistakable charm, lightness, and mechanical purity that made the 356 an icon among collectors worldwide.

Powered by the uprated 95-horsepower flat-four engine and equipped with four-wheel disc brakes, the 356 SC immediately distinguishes itself from earlier versions with sharper performance, greater flexibility, and a far more modern driving character. Its exceptional power-to-weight ratio, responsive chassis, and refined road manners make it one of the most usable and rewarding classic Porsche models for modern touring and historic driving events alike.

Produced in extremely limited numbers, the 356 SC Cabriolet has become a true blue-chip collector’s Porsche — considerably rarer than many of today’s so-called limited-production models. As demand for investment-grade Porsche classics continues to rise internationally, matching-era and correctly restored examples such as this are increasingly difficult to source.

According to its official Porsche Certificate of Authenticity, this Porsche 356 SC Cabriolet was completed in 1965 for the German domestic market, originally specified in its elegant factory-correct Irish Grün exterior over black leather upholstery.

Today, the car is once again presented in its original Irish Grün finish, beautifully complemented by a tasteful beige leather interior chosen during the restoration process — a period-correct and sophisticated combination that enhances the timeless lines of the Cabriolet bodywork.

After its early history in Germany, the car was acquired during the 1990s in the Canary Islands, where it underwent an initial restoration, fully documented with photographs. During this period, the original engine was reportedly replaced due to excessive deterioration with a correct-type 1965 KD-series engine, closely matching the original factory specification and numbering sequence. The car was also refinished at the time in a pastel blue shade and subsequently enjoyed as a regular summer driver.

Acquired by us in 2017 as a complete restoration project, the Porsche was subjected to a comprehensive nut-and-bolt restoration carried out to exceptionally high standards. The car was entirely disassembled, chemically stripped to bare metal, and underwent extensive metalwork restoration. Importantly, all body panels — including doors, lids, and bonnet — retain their correct matching body numbers.

Mechanically, the car benefited from a full overhaul of the drivetrain, gearbox, suspension, braking system, and rolling chassis components, including the installation of a bespoke stainless-steel exhaust system. Every stage of the restoration process has been meticulously documented through an extensive photographic archive comprising more than 400 images.

Following completion, the bodywork was refinished in its original factory Irish Grün colour, while the interior was retrimmed in elegant beige leather, achieving a refined and highly period-authentic presentation. The result is an exceptionally well-restored European-market Porsche 356 SC Cabriolet combining collector-grade aesthetics with excellent mechanical integrity.

From late 2018 onwards, the car became part of a private Porsche collection in Austria, where it remained carefully preserved and sparingly used, covering only a few hundred additional kilometres.

Today, this Porsche 356 SC Cabriolet presents in outstanding condition throughout, having covered just 2,000 km since restoration. Recently serviced, including fluids, braking system inspection, and mechanical checks, the car is fully prepared for immediate use and enjoyment.

Accompanying the vehicle are:

  • Porsche Certificate of Authenticity
  • Extensive restoration photographic book
  • Complete original tool kit
  • Restoration documentation

A rare opportunity to acquire one of the most collectible and investment-worthy open-top Porsche models of the 1960s — an exceptionally restored Porsche 356 SC Cabriolet presented in one of its most elegant original colour combinations.
