Few modern sports cars remain as determinedly focused as the Lotus Elise, and fewer still capture the marque’s founding principles with such clarity as the Elise 220 CUP. Launched as a harder-edged, more purposeful evolution of the Elise range, the 220 CUP was conceived for the enthusiast who values feel, feedback and finesse above all else.

At its heart lies Lotus’ familiar supercharged 1.8-litre engine, producing a lively 217bhp and paired to a six-speed manual gearbox. With a kerb weight of just 952kg, performance is delivered not through brute force, but through immediacy and balance, the way a Lotus should be. Acceleration is brisk, the steering direct and alive, and the chassis endlessly communicative, offering a driving experience that feels refreshingly analogue in an increasingly digital age.

The CUP designation brings with it a number of performance-focused enhancements, including lightweight forged wheels, uprated suspension and increased aerodynamic detailing, all contributing to sharper responses and heightened driver engagement. Inside, the cabin remains intentionally minimalist, placing the emphasis squarely on the act of driving, while retaining the essential comforts expected of a modern sports car.

Finished in the very fitting C168 Formula Red, with a contrasting exterior Black Pack comprising of front inspection panel, hard-top roof, roll over hoop, engine cover, rear spoiler and the rear transom. The Black Pack also extends to the ‘Big Aero Kit’ with front splitter, barge boards, side skirts and prominent rear diffuser. The lightweight forged wheels are finished in Satin Black, and house the subtle black brake calipers. The spoiler features Union Jack decals to the end plates. The car is also supplied with a soft-top canvas roof for easy roof off motoring at a moment’s notice. Finally, a partial PPF covering is fitted to the front clam and headlights, as well as in front of the rear wheels on the lower sill panels, ensuring continued protection of the car for miles to come.

The interior remains simple, as an Elise should be. A black Atom cloth and SuedeTex scheme can be found, with Sport seats and a subtle white contrast stitch. Specified with the Comfort Pack, this includes a 4-speaker sound-system, 220 CUP logo floor mats, sound insulation and an aluminium passenger footrest alongside central locking. Air-conditioning is also specified and the interior presents in an excellent condition throughout. A Lotus Motorsport build plate commemorates the special edition.

Having covered just 10,150 miles in its 9-year life, the car is in a wonderful condition. Having been garaged when not in use, and maintained on trickle charge, the car has only been used in good weather during summer seasons. With a comprehensive service record and perfect MOT history, the car has clearly been cared for.
