Officially introduced at the Paris Salon in October 1975, the 308 GTB's styling was created by Pininfarina. The stunning two-seat coachwork was all new but incorporated all the old magic by blending aspects of the Dino 206/246 with the later 365 GT4/BB. Reminiscent of the Boxer was the dihedral groove at bumper level splitting top and bottom, the plunging nose and the sail panels reaching back to meet a shallower spoiler, while the conical side air intakes and recessed concave rear window were familiar from the Dino. The 308 was simply sublime in its appearance. The 308 GTB employed a tubular steel chassis with independent coil spring/wishbone suspension front and rear, complemented by anti-roll bars, adjustable dampers and powerful disc brakes. At its heart was a Formula One derived, all alloy, quad camshaft 3.0 litre V8 engine, allied to a transversely mounted five-speed gearbox.
Presented in the particularly attractive combination of Blu Dino Metallizzato over Beige (tan) leather, this 1978 example is distinguished by its low mileage, appealing factory specification, and accompanying documentation. Showing just 23,736 miles from new, the recorded mileage is further supported by the car's accompanying MoT history. With just six registered keepers, its history file includes the car's service book together with its original sales documentation dating from 1978. Further to the car's rare and desirable colour combination, it was also specified from new with factory-fitted air conditioning, a desirable option. The combination of Blu Dino Metallizzato paintwork and contrasting tan upholstery is both elegant and evocative of the period. Importantly, the car has also benefited from a recent service carried out by marque specialist Kent High Performance. Combining low recorded mileage, limited ownership, desirable factory equipment, and a useful collection of supporting documentation, this 1978 example presents an appealing opportunity for the enthusiast seeking a well-documented 308 in a rare and desirable colour combination.
