Few Daimler SP250s can boast a history quite as fascinating as YUU 10. Manufactured on 15th February 1960 and supplied new to Stratstone of Mayfair, as confirmed by its Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust Certificate and original plaque inside the glovebox, this early example retains its original Ivory paintwork with contrasting brown trim. The car was acquired by John McCall in 1970, who subsequently campaigned YUU 10 during the 1970s at Silverstone in the Pomeroy Trophy, achieving a second-in-class award in 1974. Photographic evidence accompanies this wonderful period competition history, adding a particularly interesting chapter to the car's story.
YUU 10 has subsequently enjoyed considerable exposure within the SP250 community and has appeared in numerous publications including Driving Member, Classic Cars for Sale, Jaguar Heritage Magazine and Brian Long's book Daimler V8 SP250, which contains many photographs of the car. In 2009, it participated in a commemorative run from Great Yarmouth to Weston-Super-Mare celebrating the 50th anniversary of the SP250.
The car also has a remarkable connection to the Daimler heritage at Shelsley Walsh. At the 2009 50th anniversary celebrations, a plaque was presented by the Jaguar Daimler Heritage Trust to commemorate Daimler being the first record holder at the hill. Featuring the original 35HP Daimler record holder alongside an SP250 represented by YUU 10, it is understood to be the only JDHT plaque featuring a Daimler.
Comprehensively restored by John McCall during the 1990s, the car has subsequently benefited from extensive upgrades and expenditure. These include tan leather upholstery and carpets, a scuttle strengthening hoop, overdrive, rack-and-pinion steering, brake servo, telescopic rear dampers, upgraded cooling system, stainless-steel coolant pipework, electronic fuel pump and ignition. Between 2002 and 2003, approximately £12,000 was spent with Jason Wright Vintage Motor Car Engineering on further mechanical and electrical improvements, including a positive-earth Dynator, suspension and brake refurbishment and four new Pirelli Cinturato tyres. Complete with a period HMV radio, leather hood bag and full tonneau, YUU 10 represents a particularly well-documented and historically significant example of Daimler's charismatic V8 sports car.
