New Bentley models were introduced from 1946 onwards. This was possible because Rolls-Royce had already designed the next generation of vehicles by the end of 1939. What made the new production site in Crewe special was that, with the Standard Steel body, complete cars were now also available ex-works. This concept proved successful. In 1952, the body was modernised to include a larger boot at the rear. The model was now known as the Bentley R-Type. Of course, special bodywork from various coachbuilders was still available.
Our Bentley R-Type saloon was built as a right-hand drive model. The four-speed gearbox is easy to operate; as they used to say back then: ‘It cuts through butter like a hot knife!’ The current owner has invested in the mechanics, such as the engine and brakes, as well as in the paintwork. The classic car is registered in Germany. It is ready for lovely drives and its powerful engine can easily handle long distances.
