1987 | Rolls-Royce Silver Spirit

D278 LUA was supplied new by HR Owen and comes to us having had a meticulous service history with its most recent long-term owner. This Rolls Royce Silver Spirit has enjoyed the treatment of being looked after by Rolls Royce specialists Silver Chalice of Sheffield and J K Seymour of Leeds for the past two decades. Having covered less than 10,000 miles in the last 18 years, it is clear to see that this car has been a very loved, garaged example, only being used in the most pleasant conditions with its most recent owner. Its total mileage is less than 72,000 since its manufacture in 1987.

The interior has been kept in an immaculate condition, the woodwork is tremendous, and mechanically it is very good and feels like every Rolls Royce should drive. The car has been subject to a bare metal repaint which is detailed by many photographs in the history file. Unfortunately, the paint has started to blister slightly on the NSR pillar and shows some defects, though overall the car presents very well.

The Silver Spirit was a car designed and built by the Chief Stylist Fritz Feller, who had worked on the car's predecessor, the Silver Shadow. The brief the team at Rolls Royce were given was to ‘make nothing more and nothing less than the best car in the world'.

After looking around this very honest example and taking it for a journey out into the Yorkshire Countryside, it truly is magnificent to drive, the smooth automatic box and the lovely naturally aspirated 6.75L engine are harmonious. The noiselessness of the cabin, and the graciousness of steering, is exactly what you would expect from Rolls Royce.

This great driving Rolls Royce would make for a fantastic value regular driver or weekend toy. While overall it is a lovely car, there is a slight tap under the bonnet evident, quite possibly ‘piston' slap which has previously been mis-diagnosed as brake pump noise. The last owner has lived with the issue for a number of years and hasn't detracted from what is a lovely driving experience. Oil pressure is excellent and general performance, ride and handling superb conducive with the lower mileage. This car has come to us in part exchange and priced very sensibly considering its defects.
