Beschreibung

A once in a life time opportunity to own one of the finest British half-cab luxury coaches in existence. The Harrington was the last word in luxury coach travel in the late 1930s. After World War II Harringtons of Hove built what was essentially the pre-war coach design on Leyland’s new PS2 chassis which featured the 0.600 9.8 litre 125hp diesel engine. Registered in 1950, this was one of the last half-cab coaches they produced. The industry progressed in the 1950s to more modern full-fronted and underfloor engine designs. The saloon features luxurious leather/fabric seats, opening windows for the passengers and a huge sunroof, the underside of which is a beautiful piece of inlaid wood panelling with stylish marquetry. The woodwork is beautiful with fittings and lighting which are all very art-deco. The unique design feature of the coach is the distinctive ‘Dorsal fin’ - an early patented design for smoke extraction from the rear. For over 20 years ‘Janice’ as she was then called was part of ‘Classique Coaches’ small fleet of coaches island hopping on spectacular Hebridean tours. Prior to her retirement in 2010 around £50,000 had been recently spent on essential restoration. The next owner then sent the coach to the famous Kenzie Coaches workshops in Royston and there are many photos and over £79,000 of invoices in the history file documenting the impressive completion of the restoration in 2011.

Pre-1997 normal car licence holders can drive this coach with up to 8 passengers. Commercial use would of course require a PSV licence and Class VI MOT.

In private use it is MOT exempt. GDM 494 has been a regular visitor to Pickering's ‘Railway at War' weekend, York Vintage Fair and other rallies over the past few years where she's been an absolute show stopper. The Coach is ‘on the button' and features a synchro gearbox and vaccuum assisted brakes. An unrepeatable find.
