Chassis DB5/2266/L was originally purchased by Mr P.A. Lacey of Fort Lauderdale Florida and supplied in White or ‘Platinum’ from the AM colour chart with Black Connolly Vaumol leather trim and all-important Whitewall Avon Turbospeed GT tyres to match the George Harrison DB5. The Factory records confirm the guarantee was issued 20th July 1965 and registered for the road as DGY 336C.

A successful American businessman based in London with homes in Spain and South Africa, Price Andrew Lacey or ‘Andy’ to all that knew him well used the DB5 extensively to tour Europe and South Africa during his time in London. Many of these journeys were recorded on handwritten logs including those from South Africa where the DB5 was used for road trips between his property in Johannesburg and Cape Town, around 1000 miles. It must have been an incredible sight on the roads of SA in the 60s.

In all, Andy clocked up 62,000 miles in just over four years before selling the DB5 to fellow American and NASA employee based in Spain – Alvin Lopez. Returning to the US in 1970, Lopez shipped the DB5 to the USA, its intended destination following production at Newport Pagnell in 65.

Alvin Lopez kept the DB5 for a short time and advertised the car for sale in 1971. Utah based petrol head Wilfred Day saw the advert and made the trip to Pomona California where he purchased chassis 2266/L for $3800. A big fan of native American Muscle cars, Wilfred was keen to add a European GT to his collection and was drawn to the DB5’s beguiling lines.
Wilfred would keep the DB5 for 35 years, until 2007 clocking up a further 40,000 miles on the odometer. During his lengthy ownership the DB5 became a much-loved part of the family regularly taking part in AMOC rallies and shows.

The story jumps forward to 2015 when a US based English film and TV Director based in Los Angeles spots the DB5 at a dealers based in San Diego. Before purchasing the DB5, he visits Wilfred Day and learns about the history of the car from someone who ultimately knows it intimately. Fascinated by the history and background, the DB5 is purchased with the intension of a full restoration to factory original specification.

Choosing Cars International to carry out a total restoration of the car, chassis 2266/L returned to the UK in its 50th year. Completed towards the end of 2016, the restoration included upgrading the engine to 4.2 litres.

The Aston lives once again back in the US, based in Los Angeles and is for sale worldwide with Cars International Heritage.
