Beschreibung

1929 Alvis Silver Eagle Tourer
Chassis Number: 12564
Registration Number: DF8330
A very nice & well sorted early Silver Eagle Alvis tourer. This car comes to us with a massive file of bills from all the right people detailing very extensive mechanical works to put the car in tip top order. As a result it is a sprightly perfomer showing equivalent 3 litre Bentley cars a clean pair of heels.
The later tourer body is well constructed & in good order. It comes with an easily erected black canvas top for inclement days. Seating arrangements are individual blue leather seats to the front with a bench seat to the rear. A full tonneau cover also comes with the car.
The 2.2 Litre engine is equipped with triple carburetors & gives the car a real turn of speed running easily at 60MPH on A roads. The car has been in the East Anglia area for a number of years under the ownership of three different people all of whom spent substantial money on it. The car is both autovac & fuel pump equipped for reliability.
The car comes with an original standing Alvis hare mascot & also a rather nice running hare mascot by Lejeune. It sits on 4 wire wheels shod with recent Blockley tyres.
This is a car that is used regularly & is verh dtrong mechanically with a real "go anywhere" feel to it. Both paintowrk & interior trim are in good order. The engine bay is tidy but slightly oily as the current onwer beleives more in driving the car then polishing it for which hte car is all the better. It may be viewed by prior appointment north of Bury St Edmunds.
In Addition to the above the current owner writes:
In present ownership since 2017, this is a thoroughly sorted Silver Eagle, both fast and reliable. It is huge fun to drive and has the advantage of being able to keep up with modern traffic, thanks to the overdrive. The motor has recently undergone a full professional service including the removal of the half shafts to check for wear (none), tuning and balancing of triple SU’s. It is fitted with both coil and magneto ignition, and runs equally well on both, with instant changeover between the two whilst underway. Fuel is delivered either by SU pump or Autovac. Oil pressure is excellent, and the engine runs cool (except in heavy traffic!). Negligible oil consumption. The owner is sorry to part with the motor but the needs of old age now require a saloon for long distance motoring.
The car comes with service kits for the SU’s, Lejeune upright and running hare mascots, and the Vintage Alvis Manual by Micky Radford, which is a comprehensive instruction on how to maintain and repair every part of the Silver Eagle. It has a VSCC buff form. The roof and full tonneau are in excellent condition, and a bespoke fitted fleece cover comes with it.
First registered 17th July as a shooting brake, the car was modified to an open tourer with aluminium body and steel wings in 2004.
Major works carried out during the last 20 years, with full supporting bills:
Complete engine rebuild 2004.
New half-shafts.
Radiator re-cored, and fitted with electric fan.
Overdrive fitted (4th gear).
Steering box cross shaft replaced.
Rewired
Extra large fuel tank fitted – approx. 70litres
New Starter motor

New clutch plate 2023
