Produced between 1961 and 1967, the TR4 combined a new, modern and aggressive body design by famed Italian stylist, Giovanni Michelotti with the basic chassis of the previous TR3A. The TR4 also improved passenger comfort with wind-up windows, face-level ventilation and an optional hardtop. The 2138cc engine of the late-production TR3A continued while the 1991cc engine was also made available to buyers who wanted to participate in two litre racing. When equipped with the optional overdrive, the TR4 was good for a top speed of almost 110mph. Today, the four-cylinder TR's are among the easiest of post-war classic sports cars to own and maintain being supported by a multitude of component suppliers and other specialists.

Originally supplied new on 14th December 1961 to the Standard Triumph Motor Company in Los Angeles, this desirable example is accompanied by a Heritage Certificate confirming factory-fitted extras including a heater, Michelin tyres and windscreen washers. Records show that the car was dispatched from Kingston-upon-Hull aboard the cargo vessel Bataan before commencing its life in the United States.During the mid-1960s the car found its way to Malta before being repatriated to the United Kingdom in January 1967. From 1967 until 1997 it remained in the long-term ownership of the Lazell family, a period spanning some thirty years. Towards the end of the 1990s the car underwent a comprehensive restoration, during which it was refinished in its current and highly attractive Signal Red livery, complemented by a contrasting black interior trimmed with white piping. The car is offered with a substantial history file containing servicing records, parts invoices and expenditure documentation, together with a collection of MoT certificates and tax discs dating from approximately 1998 onwards. The car sits on 68-spoke chrome wire wheels fitted with Continental period-style tyres. Additional work has included the replacement of the rear brake drums and shoes, while both front seats were professionally re-upholstered at some point. The car also benefits from the acquisition of an age-related registration number, replacing the 'E'-suffix registration that had been issued upon its return to the UK in 1967. The present owner replaced the head gasket with a new one in 2025.Presented in very good order and supported by an extensive history file, this well-maintained and attractively restored example represents a wonderful opportunity to acquire a classic Triumph with documented provenance, long-term ownership history, continual sympathetic improvement and has been very well cared for the owner since purchasing in 2019.
