Successor to the race proven E9 3.0CS/CSi, the BMW 6-Series was introduced in August 1976. More forgiving than its predecessors, it utilised a modified version of the 5-Series saloon platform equipped with all-round independent suspension and powerful disc brakes. A natural rival to the 928 and XJS, the four-seater 6-Series proved more capacious than the Porsche and sportier than the Jaguar. Immediately recognisable thanks to its distinctive 'shark nose' frontal styling and thin pillared glasshouse it boasts real road presence. An impression backed up by the various versions of BMW's mighty M30, SOHC straight-six engine fitted throughout the range. Second only to the BMW Motorsport tuned M6 version, the 635CSi's 3430cc unit developed some 216bhp and 232lbft of torque propelling it from 0-60mph in 8.4 seconds and on to 135mph.

Acquired by its long-term owner in approximately 1989, this BMW has remained within the same family for nearly four decades representing an example of enthusiastic ownership. Purchased from its original owner, it served as reliable daily transport for the first four to five years before being retired from regular use. Rather than parting with the car, its owner recognised its emerging classic status and elected to keep the car with the intention to fully restore it for his grandson. Under his ownership this 635 CSi spent most of its life garaged, benefiting from conscientious maintenance and significant investment. The car underwent extensive bodywork repairs, including professional rust repairs, while the engine received a comprehensive rebuild. More recent maintenance includes the fitment of brake discs and pads, a replacement fuel pump, and new spark plugs. Sadly, though he died before being able to complete the project and the car has passed to his grandson, who cannot complete it either, thus forcing the sale of this much beloved car. Mechanically, the vendor reports the car to run, although the car still needs work both mechanical and on the body to return it to its former glory. Throughout its long-term ownership, it has been carefully preserved and sympathetically maintained and despite showing as having had a Category C insurance loss on the car in 2009 for front bumper damage, it still makes for an appealing opportunity for collectors seeking an honest example with charming provenance and a documented history of ownership.
