This example comes from the very first production year, reportedly carries production number 623 of the approximately 30,000 units built in Japan in 1998, and is presented in the classic Yamaha blue-and-white color scheme. The motorcycle is registered in Luxembourg, is said to have been used exclusively on public roads, and shows a comparatively moderate mileage of around 33,600 kilometers.
At the end of the 1990s, the first Yamaha R1 was less an evolution and more a shockwave. Yamaha succeeded in building a motorcycle that was more compact, lighter, and simultaneously more powerful than virtually anything previously seen in this class. During this work, all fluids were replaced, the carburetors were adjusted, and the battery, spark plugs, seals, fuel tap, high-voltage ignition coils, TPS sensors, as well as the air and oil filters were renewed. In addition, the inside of the fuel tank was treated and sealed. According to the owner, the brakes, lighting system, suspension, exhaust system, controls, cables, and tires were also inspected and are all in good condition.
Particularly noteworthy is the successful completion of the Luxembourg Contrôle Technique, which reportedly passed without any remarks.
The motorcycle comes from the 1998 model year and therefore belongs to the first production series of the YZF-R1. According to the seller, it is an early example carrying production number 623. The bike is said never to have been used on racetracks and remains in largely original configuration.
