• 80% complete project

The Vauxhall J-Type represents a distinctive chapter in Britain's immediate post-war commercial vehicle history, reflecting a period defined by utility, resilience, and reconstruction. Powered by Vauxhall's proven four-cylinder engine and built on a simple, robust chassis, the J-Type earned a reputation for dependability and ease of maintenance. Its compact dimensions and adaptable platform allowed for numerous body styles, including vans, pick-ups, and specialist conversions. Today, the Vauxhall J-Type is valued for its historical presence and charm, increasingly sought-after for display, promotional use, or inclusion in period-correct collections, and stands as an evocative reminder of Britain's early post-war motoring heritage.

This example was manufactured in 1947 and first registered to Sir Alan Lascelles of Buckingham Palace, SW1. Sir Alan Lascelles was the personal secretary of King George VI, his name and details are found on the original buff logbook supplied with this delightful J-Type. The same logbook denotes that he and the car moved to St. Jame's Palace SW1 in 1953. The car itself has been subject to a restoration program which has sadly not been completed due to the previous custodian passing away. It is thought to be 80% complete. The current owner declares that it is rust free, the welding is complete with bodywork repainted in its original black whilst the seats are original and in contrasting brown leather. Supplied with the car is a full photo album of the rebuild from the start to its current state.

The list to complete the car has been supplied by the vendor and provides some further details, as follows; rear bumper requires re-chroming, new exhaust and wipers required and the headlights need wiring, headlining needs to be installed but is supplied with the car, carpets need to be supplied and installed. The vendor has instructed a local mechanicand now the engine turns over and runs but needs tuning therefore buyers should note it will require finishing and trailering away will be advised. There is a small electrical drain to note so when in storage it is recommended to disconnection the battery. Offered with a wealth of paperwork and fantastic provenance, this is a fantastic project to finish. Consigned by Mathew Priddy
