*Tatra T77A: The Car of the Future
*
This is something truly special. Every so often, a car appears that is so far ahead of its time that you genuinely wonder how it could have been built in 1935.

Picture the mid-1930s. Most automobiles were tall, upright, and angular. Then Tatra introduced something that looked as if it had rolled straight out of a wind tunnel, not as a concept study or prototype, but as a production vehicle. That fact alone makes the T77A extraordinary.

The original Tatra 77 was the world’s first production car to be genuinely designed around aerodynamics. Its form was no accident. The long, flowing bodywork, enclosed rear wheels, and signature central fin were all purposeful elements. And they worked: its drag coefficient remains impressive even by modern standards. Not long afterward, Lancia would follow with the Aprilia — another landmark automobile guided by a similar philosophy.

In 1935, the T77 evolved into the T77A. The engineering advanced as well. Mounted in the rear is an air-cooled 3.4-liter V8 producing approximately 75 horsepower. By today’s figures that may seem modest, but nearly ninety years ago it enabled a top speed exceeding 150 km/h, remarkable performance for its era.

The technology is every bit as fascinating as the styling. A dry-sump lubrication system, independent suspension, and extensive use of magnesium alloys to reduce weight demonstrate how forward-thinking the design truly was. This was not merely a luxury limousine that happened to be quick, it was a technical manifesto disguised as a refined grand automobile.

And then there is the craftsmanship. Each T77A was hand-built. Some examples even featured a glass partition between the front and rear compartments, not out of necessity, but because it was possible. This was a car intended for those who wanted to lead, not follow.

The example offered here is exceptionally rare. Of the 106 T77A models produced, it is believed that fewer than six remain in running condition worldwide. This particular car has been comprehensively restored with deep respect for originality and a genuine passion for the marque. That dedication is evident throughout. Its presentation reflects the caliber of restoration one would expect at this level, and the photographs on our website provide a clear impression.

Authenticity has been confirmed by the Tatra Technical Museum, further underscoring the importance of this automobile. The condition is nothing short of outstanding. This is a car of remarkable historical significance, technologically visionary, aesthetically groundbreaking, and extraordinarily rare.
