Highlights
This 1989 Porsche 911 Speedster is one of the rare narrow-body examples, with only 161 units produced worldwide. With just 23,500 km, 2 owners, and over 30 years in the hands of its current owner, this matching-numbers example—configured for the French market—stands out with a complete history and an exceptional state of preservation.
General Information / Model History
The 1989 3.2L Speedster embodies a resolutely purist philosophy, paying tribute to the legendary 356 Speedster. With its lowered and steeply raked windshield, iconic double-hump rear cover, and clean lines, it represents a driving-focused interpretation.
Out of 2,103 Speedsters produced, 1,942 were configured in the wide-body “Turbo Look.” The narrow-body versions remain extremely rare, with only 161 built, including just a handful in right-hand drive. This makes it one of the most exclusive air-cooled 911 configurations. Considered the purest by collectors, it is also around 80 kg lighter, offering sharper handling and a more engaging driving experience.
Powered by the iconic naturally aspirated 3.2L flat-six from the G-series, this model marks the culmination of the classic 911 era before the arrival of the 964 generation.
Exterior
This Speedster was configured for the French market (C05). Finished in metallic silver (code S7) with a black soft top, it is in near-new condition, free from accidents, oxidation, or corrosion. Seals, glass, and factory welds retain their original appearance. The original factory-applied anti-corrosion wax is still present (rare for a car over 30 years old), along with all production labels on the body.
Interior
The interior is trimmed in original black leather and carpets. It features electrically adjustable sport seats. The classic Porsche dashboard with central tachometer is complemented by a correctly dated (06/89) speedometer up to 260 km/h, an analog clock, and auxiliary gauges.
The car is equipped with a Cobra alarm and a high-end Hi-Fi system installed with respect for originality, including a Philips CD player, a 75W Alpine amplifier hidden under the passenger footrest, tweeters under the dashboard, and Pioneer E-Motion speakers in the original door locations.
Technical
This Speedster is matching numbers, with engine and gearbox numbers corresponding to the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity (COA). The naturally aspirated 3.2L flat-six (type 930/20) produces 231 hp, is non-catalyzed, and uses Bosch injection. It is paired with a 5-speed G50 manual gearbox, allowing speeds over 245 km/h.
Factory 16-inch forged Fuchs alloy wheels are fitted with Pirelli P0 tires. Under Porsche warranty, minor localized paint corrections were professionally carried out due to a factory-recognized clear coat issue, without affecting overall integrity.
Maintained by top Porsche specialists, the car underwent a full inspection and passed technical inspection with no faults in January 2023 at 22,884 km. It has since covered only 700 km.
Factory options include: French version, French language labels, Pirelli P0 tires, EU fuel specification, short shifter, electric sport seats, 16-inch Fuchs wheels, radio preparation, Bilstein sport suspension with lift system, audio package, heated convex mirrors, anti-theft system, and velvet trunk carpet.
History
Delivered new by Sonauto France to a Strasbourg dealer in 1989, it was initially reserved but never delivered to the first client. After two years in the dealership, it was first registered on August 18, 1992.
The current owner acquired the car on September 7, 1995, and has owned it for over 30 years.
Service / Documents
The car comes with:
All original manuals (including French Speedster supplement), service book, invoices, inspection reports, Porsche COA, registration documents, Sonauto certificate, Hi-Fi and alarm manuals Complete original tool kit, soft top cover, 2 keys, spare keys, wheel lock keys, alarm remotes, key card, antenna key Conclusion
More discreet and elegant than the Turbo Look versions, the narrow-body Speedster captivates with purity. This example combines rarity and authenticity. Its low mileage, documented history, and exceptional condition offer a rare opportunity to experience what feels like a brand-new late-1980s 911—an experience that has become extremely rare today.
