Description

Very rarely do you find a matching numbers Porsche 356 Cabriolet in such well kept, original condition and with meticulous documentation to match it.

On August 21st 1962, Thornton Motors in Stockton, California, sold this new Porsche 356 B 1600 Super (T6) Cabriolet to buyer Patricia G. Lynn. Miss Lynn traded in her 1959 Volkswagen as part of the deal and would keep the Porsche 356 B together with her husband until 1989. The colour # 746 Bali Blue, was to special order and is noted as such on the official ‘Porsche Car Pacific Inc.’ order note accompanying the car.

Miss Lynn carefully kept the original sales invoice from 1962, the original order note from Porsche, the original insurance certificate and vehicle registration receipts. But not only that; Miss Lynne kept all invoices for service work carried out over the years, right from 1963 to 1989 and so it is possible to trace the history of this Porsche 356B Cabriolet in the minutest detail. Very rarely do you find any car with this much history intact.

Powered by a 1.6-liter, air-cooled flat-four engine producing 75 horsepower in the "Super" (S) configuration, the 356 B 1600 S offered spirited performance for its class. Paired with a 4-speed manual transmission, it could achieve a top speed of around 170 km/h and 0–100 km/h in roughly 13 seconds—not bad for an early '60s sports car.

All 356 B T6 cabriolets were coachbuilt by Reutter, a long-time partner of Porsche and combines Porsche’s engineering precision with elegant open-top styling. The T6 was an intermediate model that featured some minor changes to the body such as the front lid that was now squared off at the front, an outside fuel filler cap on the right hand side front-wing and dual vents on the rear engine lid.

In current ownership since 2021, and with just one intermediate owner between 1989-2021, the Porsche 356B 1600S Cabriolet has now travelled a documented 124.700 km from new with three owners in total. It remains in beautiful, unmolested condition with one older repaint in the original Bali Blue that has mellowed in nicely.

The interior is nicely patinated and features grey leather as was custom on Cabriolets of the time. The original Blaupunkt export radio has been replaced for another FM Blaupunkt radio, however the original ‘Music’ and ‘Speech’ Blaupunkt radio comes with the car.

The Porsche starts on the button and sets into a gentle idle instantly. Once on the road, The drive is engaging and firm as you would expect from a well kept, well serviced car. The 75hp gives you plenty of power to cope with modern traffic and it is a pleasure to cruise along in this time warp Porsche being in no rush at all. Thanks to the syncromesh gearbox, The 356 B is also a pleasure to ride around town. This really is the perfect summer car.

Coming with the car is the original VDO speedometer in Miles (frozen at 65.888 in 1989), the original 1962 356B drivers manual and a rare, original workshop manual for Porsche 356 B and C as well as numerous invoices and original documents.

Lastly a handful of invoices from 2021/22 covering oil filter and oil change, work on the brakes including new brake shoes at the front, new front wheel bearings, valve adjustment and adjustment and synchronization of the carbs.

The Porsche 356B 1600 S Cabriolet is currently registered on Danish (EU) registration documents with historic number plates and ready to be enjoyed by its next caretaker.
