History

Eight generations of the Oldsmobile 98 were released over a 55-year period. Many generations of the 98 are related to a car from sister brand Buick, the Electra. The number 98 indicates the rank of the car within the brand. Lower-ranking models were therefore given a lower number, such as the Oldsmobile 76. Ranson E.Olds built a steam-powered tricycle in 1891. This was the beginning of Oldsmobile's history. Cars with four wheels and with petrol and electric motors followed. In 1908 Oldsmobile became part of the General Motors concern. Olds himself left and founded REO with his initials. After World War II, Oldsmobile was the first General Motors to start building cars again. Of the Oldsmobile 60 series, the cheapest was the Sixty, the most expensive the Ninety, and the middle the Seventy. The 68 Convertible remained a rarity. The "Ninety Eight" has been the "Top of the Line" at Oldsmobile since the war. In 965 it came out with a new body. The car was only available with automatic transmission and was supplied with power brakes and power steering, electrically adjustable seats and electric side windows. The sedan was the most sold type and the convertible the least. You rarely see a 98 of this type in Europe.

Exterior

The body was taken from the chassis, completely sanded, sandblasted, provided with the necessary protective layers and repainted very professionally. The bodywork is today in beautiful condition and free of any damage. The paint is sleek and has a nice shine. Also at the bottom of the car everything is in excellent condition: the chassis part was also sandblasted, treated and powder coated. All chromed parts of this car were rechromed by a chrome specialist. The large bumpers, all the mouldings, both on the body and the interior, have been redone. This meant an important cost for the current owner...

History Sheet metal

The white convertible top is in perfect condition and the fully automatic mechanism works nicely in a smooth movement. To complete and to substantiate the condition of the car, the undersigned encloses a number of invoices for parts purchased and work carried out. Such vehicles in such beautiful condition and with this quality of restoration are rare. This car could be nominated when participating in a concours d'élégance. Ranson E. Interior

The interior was completely reupholstered in high-quality red leather. Its execution is perfect down to the last detail. The dashboard was also addressed and re-chromed. All controls on the dashboard are present and all functions are working. The red carpets are neat. The trunk space is neat and orderly. The labels specific to this car were re-glued on the inside where they should be. The spare wheel with the accompanying jack is present.

Engine and Gearbox

The Oldsmobile 98 is powered by an overhead valve V8 engine with a displacement of 425 cubic inches, hydraulic valve lifters, a Rochester four-barrel carburetor and a compression ratio of 10.25:1. It makes 365 horsepower and is supported by the Hydra -Matic transmission. The engine and gearbox are numbers matching and in excellent condition.

The car was recently fully restored and has therefore been fully serviced
