Better than new!
The MG A, introduced in 1955, was a pivotal model for the British Motor Corporation, marking a shift from MG’s pre-war designs to a more modern, aerodynamic approach. Designed by Syd Enever, the MG A embodied a blend of classic British sports car charm and practicality, featuring a sleek, rounded body and a robust inline-four engine. Its lightweight construction and responsive handling made it an instant favorite among enthusiasts, while its affordability broadened its appeal.
The MG A became a staple in road racing and rallying. Its nimble chassis and reliable engine allowed it to compete effectively in events like the Mille Miglia, Targa Florio, and various European rallies. Drivers praised its balance and predictability, making it a popular choice for both amateur and professional racers. The MG A’s success on the track and in rally stages cemented its reputation as a versatile and capable sports car, leaving a lasting legacy in motorsport history.
This MGA started its life in The Netherlands and was shipped to a client on the Island of Curacao where it stayed until 1968 when it was sold to Mr. P. Kouwenberg, at that time the chairman of the MG car club of the Netherlands. Under his ownership the car was converted to a RHD Racecar and raced in the then upcoming races for Historic cars in the early 80’s.
The current owner acquired the car in 1984 and carried out further improvements. He and his wife successfully raced the car until the 90’s under the banner of the popular MG workshop racing series. Dozens of period pictures and an FIA HTP included in the file testify of an active race career.
In 1998 it was decided to carry out a full “no expenses spared” rebuild of the car and make it more suitable for fast road driving and/or historic rallies. In the process the car was converted back to the original LHD configuration. The result is a car that may look quite standard but is very fast with superior handling. Since then, the car has driven less than 1000 kms and must be considered as good as, or even better than new.
