The interior of this 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL is finished entirely in green, including the carpets, dashboard, and steering wheel. It is the kind of color scheme that today would probably have to pass through three committees and a marketing department before being approved. In 1992, someone simply ordered it, while choosing a restrained and timeless color for the exterior.

This Mercedes was originally configured for a member of Mercedes-Benz management. And although we do not know exactly how much time was spent deciding on the specification, we can say with certainty that nobody chose the safe route. No silver with black. No dark blue with gray. Instead, anthracite on the outside and green throughout the interior.

The R129 SL was introduced in 1989 as the successor to the R107. That was no easy task, as its predecessor had remained in production for nearly twenty years and had built an exceptionally strong reputation during that time. Mercedes-Benz therefore had to come up with something truly substantial. And that is exactly what the company did.

The new SL received a fully electrohydraulically operated convertible top, an automatically deploying roll bar, and seat belts integrated directly into the seats. It was also equipped with a modern multilink rear suspension and a body design that made it perfectly clear the 1990s had begun. Everything was cleaner and more sharply defined. And everything was built around the idea that an SL should still feel like a serious automobile ten or fifteen years later.

Under the hood lies the 5.0-liter M119 V8. A naturally aspirated 32-valve engine producing 326 horsepower and 450 Nm of torque. No turbochargers. Just a large V8 going about its work with calm assurance. You can drive it gently, almost as though nothing remarkable is happening. But press the accelerator farther and the SL suddenly begins covering ground at an impressive rate. No excessive drama and no nervous movements. The speed builds powerfully, yet linearly. That may well be the most Mercedes-like way of being fast.

This example has covered only 66,000 kilometers and is presented in exceptionally well-cared-for condition. Everything feels tight, solid, and exactly as you would hope a good R129 should feel. Both the exterior and the interior are in excellent condition. The controls, the cabin, the finish, and the way the car drives all create the impression that it has been treated with considerable care.

Maintenance was carried out largely by Mercedes-Benz dealerships, and the corresponding service records and invoices are present. A 1992 Mercedes-Benz 500 SL with a fully green interior, originally ordered for a member of Mercedes-Benz management, and showing just 66,000 kilometers.
