Description

A fantastic opportunity to acquire an easy Pagoda project; a car that needs overhauling in places rather than a full strip-down restoration.

This is a US market LHD 230SL in white with contrasting black hard top, red MB Tex trim with the four-speed manual gearbox. Pleasingly, we can see from the car’s datacard (that comes in the history file) that it retains its factory colours and original trim.

The car was imported from Florida in 2016 and in the same ownership since then. Back in 2016 it was MoT’d and UK registered along with quite a bit of work carried out, but it has been garaged off the road in recent years.

Starts and runs, albeit a bit spluttery when cold, the engine sounds happy enough. Goes into gear, drives for loading purposes.

The body is amazing really - solid and very original. Underneath it’s overall in excellent condition and free from patch repairs – this was evidently a dry state car. A replacement boot floor appears to be the only major surgery it’s had. Outside the paint is decent and perfectly presentable, the brightwork is nice with good bumpers.

Inside we find the original MB Tex seats and door cards, and evidently a new carpet set in the correct red square weave. There’s a desirable white wheel and a Becker Europa radio.

The hood needs replacing. The hard top is the original and in decent shape but would benefit from some cosmetic restoration.

Mechanically this car needs to be gone through completely and fettled where required. Tyres are pretty much unused Maxxis white-walls.

This is the ideal car for someone who wants to enjoy bringing a Pagoda back to life themselves, but who understandably doesn’t want the expense and difficulty of taking on a car that needs a total rebuild, particularly a bodyshell restoration. This is a car that you could concentrate on the mechanicals and leave the body and cosmetics alone and end up with a super-solid, original colours Pagoda that you can enjoy driving for a very reasonable sum as a lot of the work needed is labour.

Comes with UK V5 registration certificate, a copy of its datacard and Florida title.

As the photos show there are numerous spare parts included in the boot.

A manual 230SL is among the most fun Pagodas to drive and this one is a such a great starting point for a very sensible price.
