Description

The Mercedes-Benz W109 was a luxury model from Mercedes-Benz and was in production from 1965 to 1972 and all had air suspension similar to that of the Mercedes 600. In August 1965, a new generation of the upper class was presented with the types 250 S, 250 SE and 300 SE, which were to succeed the tailfin types W111 and W112 (220 Sb, 220 SEb, 300 SE). What all three models had in common was a body designed by Paul Bracq, whose clear lines dispensed with fashionable accessories and whose restrained elegance still makes a timeless impression today. The W108/W109 series has disc brakes all round, an advanced detail compared to many other contemporary automobiles. Production of the series, which was very successful overall, ended in September 1972. The "S-Class" models of the W116 series functioned as successors. The eight-cylinder 3.5 (and 4.5 liter, US version) have electronic injection (Bosch D-Jetronic) and engine outputs of 147 and 143 kW. The 300 SEL 4.5 was built exclusively for export and took the engine from the 450 SE from the 116 series in advance. Since the exhaust gas regulations in the USA could no longer be met with the 300 SEL 6.3, the new 4.5l engine from the 116 was installed for two years in the 109 body in a quantity of 2,553. The 300 SEL 4.5, after adjustment for American fuel quality, had about the same power as German 300 SEL 3.5, but significantly more torque. In addition, these vehicles already have the new 3-speed converter automatic transmission, which shifts more comfortably and also has a longer rear axle ratio (1: 3.23).

The vehicle shown here is a vehicle from 1971 in the original color combination, 172 anthracite gray metallic with 040 black uni roof and black leather. The car was imported from San Francisco in November 2001, it was in unrestored condition, the body appeared rust-free & accident-free, the mileage was given as a credible 57,000 mls. Over the past few years, the vehicle has been completely redesigned and given a new paint job. The interior has been revised, the front seats have been completely renewed. The technology has been completely revised, the air suspension has been completely renewed, the front and rear axles have been overhauled, all wearing parts have been renewed, the engine has been overhauled, in principle everything on the car has been renewed, overhauled or optically prepared. Receipts fill an entire file folder. The production costs far exceed the required purchase price. Accordingly, the 300 is now here, like new, without having robbed it of its patina. A large part of the work was carried out at AI Motors in Stutensee, you are welcome to inquire there. The car drives like a modern vehicle, is extremely comfortable and reliable, just like a Mercedes. You will have to search a long time to find a vehicle in such condition. A Classic Data report that assesses the condition as 1- is available.

We sold the vehicle to a German collector some time ago and have now bought it back because the collection was liquidated. It was our reference vehicle from our private collection at the time and was restored without regard to costs. In the last few months we have completely checked the vehicle again and rectified even the smallest defects. He has now earned the title "Reference" again. Restoring such a vehicle today costs at least twice the asking price. Restorations are therefore mostly carried out superficially or only optically. Here we can speak of a vehicle that we really know down to the last screw and of which we are 100% convinced.

It still has its original books, tools and also its original spare wheel.
