Description

The 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280 SE Coupe (W111) is a timeless symbol of elegance and engineering prowess. This two-door luxury coupe boasts a sleek, pillarless design with chrome-accented lines, exuding sophistication. PHZ 2 comes to us from a local customer of ours who has owned the car for 11 years having imported it form the sunshine state of California. This Mercedes presents superbly well with an exceptionally solid and original underside, and beautiful interior.

The previous long-term owner of fifteen years bought the car having covered around 68,000 miles and stored the car at his holiday home in Palm Springs to enjoy sparingly all the while maintaining the 280 meticulously. The history accompanying the vehicle goes back to 1998 when the owner regularly presented the vehicle to his local Mercedes Benz Specialists who maintained the car throughout his ownership. While in America, the 3.5L engine was rebuilt, and the car received a new PAS box, the differential was rebuilt, the radiator was reconditioned, a full new stainless-steel exhaust was installed, all the coolant hoses were replaced, and the car was serviced nearly every year irrespective of the low mileage being covered.

In 2014, PHZ 2 was purchased from the USA by a businessman local to us as he was searching for a very correct and rust-free car. Throughout his long-term ownership, the 280SE visited a local Mercedes Specialist who replaced both the rear suspension springs, replaced the transmission mountings, removed the gearbox and had it fully overhauled. The seats have been re-trimmed keeping the original Black Leather colour. Since the vehicle has been in the UK it has lived a very sheltered life covering only 2,000 miles, taking the total mileage to 80,900. Enjoying this car comes not only from looking at it but taking it out on the open road. The power delivery is smooth and linear offering a surge of torque almost effortlessly making long drives serene. Paired with the 4-speed automatic transmission, gear changes are almost imperceptible. With its blend of style, comfort, and reliability, the 280 SE Coupe remains a coveted classic for enthusiasts of vintage luxury.
