Description

In February 1961, the coupés and cabriolets of the W 111 (‘Fin Tail’) series were presented. Everyone was enthusiastic about the aesthetics of these special models. The Mercedes-Benz slogan at the time was: ‘Modern but not stylish! Over the years, various engines were installed, similar to the saloon. In the meantime, a new V8 engine with a displacement of 3.5 litres had been developed for the S-Class of the W 116 model series. The decision was made to install this engine in the coupés and cabriolets of the W 111. Visually, the radiator grille became wider and the bonnet flatter. As many as 3,270 coupés of this type were built.

According to the data card, our Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Coupé with luxurious equipment was delivered to the USA. The expert report from Classic Analytics gives it a score of 1-. We are a little more conservative and award a grade of 2+. The restoration work is well documented and supported by invoices. The Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.5 Coupé is considered by many enthusiasts to be the most beautiful model of the 60s and 70s. The classic ambience and the powerful V8 engine – an ideal match.
