This 1967 Mercedes-Benz 220B Fintail (W110) is a rare manual example, first supplied in 1965 and subsequently registered in the UK in May 1967. It has remained in the UK ever since and is accompanied by an exceptionally comprehensive history file, documenting a chain of just three, highly meticulous, former keepers. Originally delivered to Major H. W. Wise, the car retains an impressive array of original literature, including its owner's manual, dealer maps, parts catalogue, brochures, technical data sheets, exchange parts booklet, and two stamped service books complete with data card. The early service history is particularly well documented, with the first entries recorded by the supplying dealer up to 21,674 miles in 1967. Upon its arrival in the UK, maintenance was continued by Mercedes-Benz main agents, including Langley Motors of Thames Ditton and Woking Motors of Guildford.
In 1974, the car passed to its second owner, who maintained it with exceptional diligence, preserving a remarkable archive of MoT test certificates, tax discs dating back to 1978, insurance documentation, invoices, and correspondence, all of which support the recorded mileage and careful upkeep. A light restoration was carried out in 1998 by Trident Mercedes-Benz Specialists, which included the fitment of new genuine front wings, repainting in DB516 Medium Red, and associated bodywork improvements. The car continues to present very well today, with only minor age-related marks consistent with careful use. The third owner, from 2008, used the car sparingly while maintaining it through Mercedes-Benz of Brentford. Since acquisition by the current owner in 2020, the car has benefited from further attentive maintenance, including the fitment of four new Michelin X tyres, underside inspection and treatment with Dinitrol, and a full service and tune of the M180 straight-six engine. The brakes have also been adjusted, and the car is reported to start readily and perform exactly as intended.
During current ownership, the car has been regularly exercised, including participation in long-distance road rallies, demonstrating its reliability and usability as a classic. Maintenance has been carried out regardless of cost by respected specialists. The vehicle is supplied with two sets of keys and an extensive history file comprising three large box files of documentation and period material, offering a rare level of provenance and insight into its life. Altogether, this is a highly original, well-documented, and usable example of the Mercedes-Benz Fintail - equally suited to continued enjoyment on the road or inclusion in a discerning collection.
