Unique and super original car with only 10.624 km, Certificato
Description
When Maserati in March 1971 presented the Tipo AM 117 at the Geneva Motor Show, it was a quantum leap in both technology and design. Maserati’s first mid-engine car with independent suspension all around and a beautiful body designed by no less than Giorgetto Giugiaro, with superior details such as a stainless steel roof and a Cv value of only 0.30. Equipped with Maserati’s own powerfull 4.7 liter V8 engine in aluminum with roots from the 450S racing car, equipped with four overhead camshafts and 4 double Weber carburetors. In the best Maserati tradition, the model was named after a wind – in this case the “Bora”.
Adding to the technical delights, the Bora interior was equipped with extreme luxury, having seats with the finest soft Connolly leather, adjustable steering wheel and pedals and soundproofing from the mid-engine, making it possible to cover long distances at high speed with plenty of comfort – the epitome of a true Grand Turismo car!
Initially the Bora was delivered with the 4.7-liter engine, and later models intended for the American market were delivered with a de-tuned 4.9-liter engine, later becoming standard to the European market from 1976 as well. In total, only 289 examples with the 4.7 and 275 examples with the 4.9-liter engine were produced, so these are quite rare cars that you don’t see every day.
This example is no. 288 and thus the second to last 4.7 produced. This is a real time warp with only 10,600 km originally driven. The car appears completely original and unspoiled, also documented by the “Certificato di Autenticità” issued by Maserati Classiche. In connection with the certification, we visited the factory in Modena and were just a little bit proud when they let us understand that this is probably the finest Bora in existence. They just wish it was part of their own collection. A car is only original once…..
Behind the steering wheel you feel very comfortable in the finest – and of course original – leather seats. The driving position is excellent and the sound from the sublime center engine, where you easily hear all the mechanics working, is fantastic. Despite the relatively high kerb weight, driving the car clearly impress with a feel and fine balance in the construction, and the car is really both powerful and smooth-running. It is a car, due to its exceptionally rare originality, will fit into a high-quality collection. We just hope that the lucky new owner will also drive it! With such a unique history and condition, it’s an obvious investment candidate.
