What a pretty picture isn’t she? This is a 1991 series three Maserati Biturbo Spider 2.0, originally supplied in Italy and still in absolute peak shape.
When the previous owner took possession of the car it was already in pretty good shape. Its current state is nothing less than impeccable.
Introduced in 1981 the Maserati Biturbo remained in production until 1994. Of course it had a number of facelifts during its time to keep things fresh. One thing Maserati luckily did not change though, was its infinite sheer Italian charm! From top to bottom this car is the personification of “La Dolce Vita”. Pierangelo Andreani signed off on the Biturbo’s original design as head of the Centre Stile at Maserati. Both facelifts were down too Marcello Gandini on the other hand. Zagato took charge of building the Biturbo Spider in Milan. The full name of our car is the Maserati Biturbo Spider III 2.0. It is a very rare car of which only 220 were ever made.
Since this Biturbo Spider arrived in the Netherlands in 1998 its two owners both have taken great care of the car. The invoices show the first owner lavished good care and only enjoyed driving it on sunny days. The second owner not only provided diligent maintenance in the same vein, but also had the engine rebuilt as well as sprucing the exterior up to such a degree as to transform this Maserati Biturbo Spider from just a good car to most likely one of the best around. Some of the work carried out includes the resprayed rims and front of the car, a new clutch, four new Michelin tyres, a new ECU and a new exhaust.
That is before we start to detail the rebuild. The engine was taken back to its component parts with every tube, gasket and bush being replaced. The turbos were fully overhauled and retuned. A new battery was fitted. A lot of the existing brackets were replaced and every clamp was replaced preventatively. The master brake cylinder as well as the steering housing were swapped for completely new ones. It just goes to show the lengths they went to during this operation.
You can guess the final result. This Maserati drives better than it did when it left the factory in 1991. The steering is as straight as an arrow, the engine runs perfectly and both the clutch and transmission are accurate in their action. All its power is distributed neatly over both rear wheels thanks to the standard fitted limited slip differential.
This car not only drives a treat but it also has the looks to go with it. The 7-spoke OZ -rims that typify the series III Biturbo are in peak shape. The car has had a cosmetic respray adding to its allure. The hood is in good overall condition and shuts neatly. Naturally the tonneau cover is there the keep everything tidy on days the hood is down.
Inside it looks as good as it is on the outside. The sports seats offer ample support and are really quite comfortable. The seats have supple black leather upholstery and are in good condition. The door panels have wooden inlay and grey suede as does the dashboard. The original wooden inlay and the wooden steering wheel are also in great shape.
All of the work carried out has been perfectly recorded. Over the last few years more than € 35,500.- has been spent in maintaining this lovely Maserati. It also still has its original car wallet as well as the car’s alarm system and radio manuals. We cannot say any better than, in our opinion, this is without doubt the very best series three Maserati Biturbo Spider money can buy.
