Description

At the introduction of the 3200 GT model in 1998 Maserati claimed: “Beauty with performance, power and elegance”. Designed by Giugiaro of Italdesign, and produced in limited numbers of which only 2,689 examples were with the desirable and strong 6 speed gearbox from Getrag. The 3200 GT (it was originally supposed to be named Mistral like its 60’s predecessor) was the last model with Maseratis own developed twin turbo engines, here in a V8 configuration developed from the original V6 engines. In order to increase the quality of the cars Ferrari took management of the production process. As Ferrari did not want too much competition with their own 355 model, the official power of the Maserati engines was stated at 370 bhp. In reality, most engines produced up to 420 bhp outperforming the Ferraris, and which is evident when driving the car.

3200 GT has a beautiful and classy elegant design, including the now legendary “boomerang” shaped tail lights. These were the first rear lights using LED technology. However, the important US market could not approve this and the successor 4200 GT featured normal shaped lights using traditional bulbs. It turned out that Maserati was way ahead of the conservative Americans! The design is just as a classic GT car is supposed to be, well suited for the long travel distances through Europe, where the driver as well as the passenger is spoiled with vast speed resources, luxury and lots of comfort, as well as space for luggage on the grand tour.

This specific car was delivered new in Italy and serviced by authorized Maserati workshops until 2013, where the car was imported to Netherlands by a true Maserati enthusiast. In the Netherlands the car was serviced only by specialist, and now displays a modest 78.700 km. The body presents unusually well maintained with its original paint all over, and also the interior shows only minimal wear. It is obvious, that this car was taken very well care of. All service and work is properly documented, and a large file of material comes with the car.

Behind the steering wheel the overall impression is that this is a fast car – seriously fast, with a strong pull as you shift up the gears using the precise box, and the speedo needle very quickly climbs up. This car calls for an experienced driver who is looking for an extraordinary driving experience. The road holding is great while still maintaining the comfort and not being overly sporty. Add to this the seductive sound of the V8 engine, even though a bit muted by the twin turbos. It is utterly addictive to do overtaking’s in this car, could end up being costly!
