Description

Although now responsible for a whole lifestyle movement, the Range Rover had more humble beginnings. The first-generation Range Rover was introduced in 1970 and was not designed as a luxury 4x4; whilst certainly up-market compared to preceding Land Rover models, the early Range Rovers had basic, utilitarian interiors with vinyl seats and plastic dashboards that were designed to be washed down with a hose. Convenience features such as power assisted steering, carpeted floors, air conditioning, cloth or leather seats and wooden interior trim were fitted later in the production run or as options. Marketed as 'A Car For All Reasons', the Range Rover was more capable off-road than the Land Rover but was much more comfortable, offering a top speed in excess of 100mph.

This highly attractive Range Rover Suffix A is presented in the desirable colour combination of Tuscan Blue over a Palomino interior and has been restored to an excellent standard. The car has remained in the same family ownership for approximately 23 years. A lifelong Land Rover enthusiast, our vendor completed the restoration of his late uncle's much-loved Range Rover with the intention that it would remain in his care indefinitely. It is with genuine reluctance and considerable regret that the decision has been made to offer the car for sale, prompted solely by a lack of suitable storage while he undertakes his own Range Rover restoration, rather than any dissatisfaction with the vehicle itself.

Mechanically, the Range Rover has been comprehensively refreshed. The engine has been fully rebuilt and starts readily from both cold and hot, while the axles, brakes and clutch have been renewed. New suspension bushes and shock absorbers have also been fitted, and the addition of overdrive significantly enhances usability and refinement on modern roads. The underside has been thoroughly refreshed, leaving little for the next owner to do other than enjoy the car.

The paintwork presents extremely well and the interior has been retrimmed in Palomino tan velour, creating a more comfortable and premium environment than the original plastic trim. Refurbished Rostyle wheels are fitted with a brand new set of Blockley tyres in the correct Michelin tread pattern, giving an authentic period appearance. An aluminium rear tailgate has been installed to address a known corrosion-prone area, while Sundym glass is fitted. Being tax, MOT and ULEZ exempt, this Range Rover is particularly well suited to use in major cities and areas operating clean air zones, including London, while remaining equally capable of longer-distance touring. The Range Rover is supplied with a V5 registration document and supporting invoices for works undertaken in recent years. Consigned by Fraser Smith
